Re: Clowns hanging at top of tank
Andreas, I see this post is over a year old now. If I'm reading that properly. I'm just wondering if you were able to determine the problem. I am now seeing something similar in my tank.

Re: My DIY 125g Clown Loach Aquarium Stand
Great job! I like the rustic look too. It probably looks good with your "mountain" home. I applaud your DIY bravery too...I'm not there yet, lol. Thank you! With youtube and the information you can find on various forums now-a-days I feel like DIY projects that were once way out of reach of someone...

Re: My DIY 125g Clown Loach Aquarium Stand
Looks great! I like the barn doors! Do they slide? Thanks! The doors do slide. I can move them over to the middle compartment to open up the side compartments, where the filters are housed (an Fx6 and an Fx4). I originally decided to go with the barn doors because I didn't trust myself to properly ...

My DIY 125g Clown Loach Aquarium Stand
I consider myself one of the least "handy" guys on the planet. Seriously, nailing two boards together is usually a challenge for me. But I decided to take a stab at making my own aquarium stand, knowing full well that if I did it improperly it could mean disaster. It was quite the adventure, but I'm...

Re: Sand substrate opinions and particle size question
Yep, my 75g was on a MDF stand for over a decade. It was peeling and was water swollen from day 1, but never budged. Guessing this material is stronger than it looks/seems, also guessing the major vendors wouldn't build warrantied stands out of it if it was really prone to failure. Of course, that d...

Re: Sand substrate opinions and particle size question
My DIY stand is done. It took a looooong time to do, since I am the least handy person on the planet (once again confirmed after this project!). I will post some photos and details soon. To the subject of sand. The CaribSea Gold I purchased is almost perfect. It is soft, a great color, looks wonderf...

Re: Sand substrate opinions and particle size question
Thanks for your thoughts, Nancy! I grabbed a bunch of bags of the Sunset Gold. The color is great in person. But it is indeed much more fine than my pool filter sand. I'm going to begin washing it today and should be able to test it in a tank soon to see how it handles movement. If it does kick up t...

Sand substrate opinions and particle size question
Hi all! Upgrading my clown tank and looking to get some of your opinions on sand substrate options. I also have a question about particle size in a tank with lots of moving water... I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I have credit that I can apply toward Caribsea products. So I am considerin...

Clown Tank Dimension Advice
Hi gang, Time for me to upgrade my tank. I currently have a standard 4 foot long 75g (48 x 18 x 21) with 4 clowns. The biggest of the group has gotten big enough that I am uncomfortable keeping him/her in this tank much longer. A quick wag of that tail and in the blink of an eye she moves from one e...

Tank blowout waiting to happen?
Just recently moved and re-set up my 75g tank. While doing so, especially while leveling the tank in its new spot, I noticed a potential problem with my stand. I have this Top Fin stand: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=20428706&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo Definitely not what I co...

Re: Lighting suggestion - 75g, lightly planted, clowns
I did some more digging late last night and... phew, it seems one need be an electrical engineer or physics teacher to figure out aquarium lighting these days!! Long gone is the watts per gallon rule of thumb. Now we are dealing with PAR, “photosynthetically active radiation”. Problem is, doesn't se...

Lighting suggestion - 75g, lightly planted, clowns
My old coralife lights didn't survive a recent move... so I am taking this as a sign to upgrade. I have a 75g tank with 4 clowns. It will be lightly planted with hardy species like anubias and java fern, etc. I would like one of the new LED setups that includes moonlighting. And I would like somethi...

Re: Moving, chance to do some upgrades?
Hi Diana, great to see you still around! The Plecos were inherited. I have no idea what kind they are, but I'd say they are about 2-3 inches long - and have been since I've had them (6-7 years or so)... hoping that means they are not the monsters! Rainbow fish sound like a great idea. Will definitel...

Moving, chance to do some upgrades?
Hi all, Has been awhile since I posted, but I have continued to lurk from time to time. Hope everyone is doing well! Things are going good on my end, in fact, my wife and I just bought our dream home. And as I begin to contemplate moving, my fish tank of course comes to mind. The reason for this pos...

Fish tank to the rescue! (basement flooding)
I figured if anyone would appreciate this effort, it would be people on this forum. :D We recently experienced some flooding in our basement due to a very wet spring. I was unable to acquire proper equipment to pump the water out, so I poached the pumps from my river tank manifold, hooked them up to...
