The canister filter is the place to be if you're a Homaloptera... The little guy will be well documented, if nothing else. Poor thing - three weeks ago he was minding his own business in some Burmese stream. Now he's a star.

Now, now... The rarities are all about patience. I think there have been ample times where you've seen fish out your way to conjure envy.
I'm planning on cleaning the river tank tomorrow, so will aim for cleaner pictures.
This one is very active, so I'll try to get him resting in the light.

That may be a match, Emma. In the bag they sure looked like horsies, but this would explain their head shape.

If they manage to import more, I'm going to go for another couple at least.

Homoloptera bilineata?

Hey. I finally found one! Only one, sadly, but the shop is going to import some more. They were imported as Red Myanmar Loach, which hardly does justice. It's definitely within the orthogoniata complex, and if the LOL species index is correct, I'm thinking I have the correct ID. Obviously, I'm going...

So you've got a new loach thread

Let's converse outside that thread and get solid stuff linked to it. It would work better, and we could pool our knowledge there until we get a chance to expand the site. If anyone has the link to Peter's ich notes, please link them in that thread.

Okay showoffs... What was the timeline? How early did the forum start - even the last incarnation that so many of us were drawn to? What year did it all go down?
And most interesting of all, if Ophir is in his 20s now, he must have been pretty young....

Hi Worton. Some very tiny horsefaced loaches have been turning up in the shops around here. It may be a matter of them being immature, but that pattern down the side of the fish, coupled with the dorsal fin, make me think they're Acontopsis species of some kind. They are really cool fish, but usuall...

That's no dojo - that's a horse-faced loach. I'll bet it'll burrow into the substrate right away if it's soft enough. You may not see it again for weeks. And has the kuhli calmed down at all? That one looks like a very stressed out P. myersi to me. When they are stressed, they can turn amazing shade...

That's called "flashing" when loaches scratch their skin against objects. It's indicative of some kind of irritation in the skin, but it's probably not Ich if there are no other symptoms - and if only two of your fish are doing it. 6.6 pH seems a little low to me, and maybe you can modify your syste...

Interesting that they seem to get more silvery with age - like B. almorhae. My histies have all kept a more black than silvery/gold appearance. They're hard to shoot though.
