If you have a tank that will suit them, nab those fish! Regardless of which species name we apply to them, many of us here keep one or both. I have both, and they turned up at the same time, in the same shipment. They don't appear that often, so if you have or can set up a river tank, jump at it. Yo...

The tiger Botias - properly the genus Syncrossus - would be fantastic if you can accommodate gnarly fish. And if you can find them. But they'd do best in a species tank, IMO.

If they're dispensing poor advice on any loaches, you just send them to this forum! I think we count as the biggest advocates of ethical loach-keeping that you'll find.

I'm with Emma and Graeme. You just need a bigger tank or smaller (less social) fish.

First off, you'll need a bigger tank. Aim for a 75 or larger for clown loaches. In a couple of years, you'll see that they need much more room than 37 gallons. They can live for decades if you treat them right, and they will reach over a foot in length. With all loaches, aim for a tank with the maxi...

I was fiddling with the depth of field - man this camera is fun. You can see though how closing down the aperture gets specific. The pectoral fins and part of the fish's side are perfect. Too bad he flinched! It's a pretty long exposure even with the flash. http://www2.2cah.com/coppermine/albums/use...

Schistura ID guesses?

This is my gravid Schistura - I'm assuming she's a Schistura... S. waltoni?

I don't think pink is a colour I'd associate with healthy sids. Redness to the belly could be swelling. Mind you, half an inch is pretty tiny - has anyone else seen immature sids before? Either way, I'd wait a week or two before picking them up. If they sell out, the shop will likely get another bat...

Alas, I think this is the fate of many - if not most - streams in Borneo.

Hendra

If you are in South Kalimantan, I can guarantee you that the photos you might share with us would be treated with complete reverence. I think I can speak for all loach keepers around the world by saying that any photos at all - even bad ones - of the loach collection sites, of collecting trips, of t...

I'd have to reshoot it. I still haven't archived my photos very well. But with five in the tank now, there are more obvious moments at hand. I know it's not as good a shot as I can get because I haven't spent much time trying.

I haven't ordered on-line, but kuhli's of any kind are famously bad travellers. We have seen a few complaints about ordering kuhlis here. The other loaches you mention are aggressive - be warned. I wouldn't personally mix kuhlis with skunk loaches. I keep my skunks by themselves - now five! Kuhlis w...

The shops are selling clown loaches now that are 1.5 inches long or smaller. You could keep these tiny guys in a 20 gallon for a little while, maybe a year. But they have a growth spurt at that age and they get suddenly bigger, to about three inches. At that point they need a bigger tank with maximu...

On second thought, we know that some loaches occur in huge numbers. Upon reflection it now doesn't seem unlikely that a fairly large dead bird - for instance - might be consumed over a few days. What a morbid post, but whatever...

My god, that's an interesting post! Wow - that's good! Nice field of research, friend... How would forensic archaeology ponder this question about fish eating corpses? I'm totally intrigued about the specifics of what you're researching. My job is largely related to internet research but I'm working...

I'm with Shair on this... Go to your fish shop and ask about Maracyn 1 and 2. That's your first course of action. Keep your water clean - do a good 40% water change before you add the medication. Rinse out your filter in spent tank water prior to treatment.
