I want to use it as a grow tank for some of the plants, but I want some permanent residents as well. Some of the smaller plants I put in my 30 gallon got chomped on pretty quickly.

Will I need water circulation and filtration as well?

Tips for growing plants in a tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank that I want to use specifically for plants (maybe put some small tetras in there) but I don't know everything which is required for such a task. I also intend on letting snails breed in there so I can feed them to my yoyo loaches. Any advice? Or at the very least, any "Absolu...

The loaches are all still quite small. The largest is just over 2.5 inches.

Perhaps I will let them remain ignorant for a little while longer so the new snails can grow and the population isn't immediately devastated.

Thanks for your help! :D

Getting my yoyos to eat snails

First and foremost I should say that I don't really know what type of snails these are, but my best guess is MTS. I think I have one arbitrary ramshorn in there, but whatever. I have several and they have begun breeding, which is good. But my loaches haven't figured out how to eat them yet. I know t...

Tiny Botia Almorhae

I have a shoal of 5 botia almorhae. They all seem to get along just fine, but there is one that is really, really skinny. He's fairly active for the most part and I usually see him eat at feeding time, if only a little. He doesn't hang out with the other's all that much, but I've never seen him get ...

That looks more like a chinese algae eater to me. If you do, in fact, have dojo loaches in that tank, they'll be fine for a while, but not forever. That tank is far too small for them.

If it's an algae eater, I have no idea. Still might be too small.

One-Eyed Botia!

I recently purchased two new botia almorhae to add to my shoal. When I got home, I realized that one of them was missing an eye! I suspect this is because he was in a tank with several tiger barbs at the store. Obviously I'll be keeping him, he can be my little pirate fish. My question is this, howe...

Perhaps I'll get some slate and make another cave.

As far as I can tell, the one that grays out simply isn't that social. I'm not sure who picks on whom, but the other two will come and look at me when I'm at the tank while the other makes sure to avoid my gaze.

I'd say each of them are approximately 2 inches each, the one that's graying out is slightly longer and slightly fatter. The tank is 30 gallons. I'm not exactly sure how the dimension specs are supposed to be written out, so I'll do length, depth, height. 36 x 12.5 x 15.5 Approximately, of course. T...

Oddly enough, he is the largest. But he doesn't chill with the other two very often. Strangely, the other two yoyos like to hang out with my dojo. Whatever. So say I got 2 or 3 more... I have a 30 gal but am already planning on getting a 75.... But I think this could take up to a year. Think that's ...

Botia Almorhae Behavior Question

I have three yoyo loaches in my tank but am only concerned about one of them. Recently the one yoyo has been graying out heavily and becomes very lethargic. I can never predict when this will happen (though typically it's at night) and sometimes he stays that way for a couple days before returning t...

I'm by no means an expert, but I added a few yo yos to my tank a couple weeks ago and they all flashed heavily for the first few days and then stopped.

How old is the yo yo? Also, a reputable fish keeper in town told me that loaches flash sometimes to, as he put it, "impress the ladies".

I think I need to get a new heater... on the lowest setting mine makes the tank 80 degrees. What about my other fish, then? I have some black skirt tetras and a couple gouramis, will they hate the colder water? Other dojos... okay. I will have to be patient. I can't find any around here. I posted be...

That's what I thought. I'm not aware of any loach that is "aggressive". It's not like they're cichlids.

I need a new heater for my tank... I got one that said it was for 30 gal. but on its lowest setting my tank is 80 degrees. :(
