hey mark what do you do to get those java ferns to grow like that ? mine grow but the leaves never get really large. they reproduce but stay really small. granted there are other plants in there that may be competing for nutrients.

what kind of light, filter and C02 if any, are you using?

thanks for the reply. to keep the temperature down i lowered the heaters a few degress to ensure they never came on, i ran the lights for abut 7 hours instead of 10 and kept the canopy open. on bad days i did put bagged ice cubes in the wet/dry which melted very quickly. the 2 liter is a good idea t...

lighting advice please....... sorry its long :(

i've been meaning to upgrade the pitiful output on my 240 gallon tank for quite some time. with all the recent talk of lighting i figured i'd ask for advice while people are on the subject. i've tried many bulbs and the ONLY bulb that i am confident about is hagens power glo. i can grow anything wit...

i was thinking of setting up another 60 gallon myself and was thinking of histironicas and yoyos to help destock a tank some. i absolutely love histies for their character. another good option could be histironicas and kubatai since they look similair when young, grow to about the same size and come...

planted river tank setup questions...........

so i was at my towns rather large mom and pop shop and fell in love with a tank they were using for a terrarium. i belive its 60 gallons( 4 ft long, 2 feet wide and 1 foot tall. i figured it would make a great river tank. i was thinking putting my yoyos in there with maybe some histironicas. anyways...

no unfortunately not. those are beautiful fish btw. i know i've seen some really stumpy clown pics around here that it kinda reminded me of. it looked like some kind of birth defect or mutation. it looked like someone took an average sized 2 inch yoyo and compressed him into a 1 inch yoyo. GIANT HEA...

saw a mutant yoyo at petsmart today !

he had a VERY short body compared to the other loaches in the tank but he was easily twice as tall. his head was double the size of the other loaches. there was obviously something different about him. i think i've seen a few pics of clown loaches on this forum that were similar. he looked healthy e...

those are truely beautiful fish ! i have kept fancy goldfish when i was younger but now i dont really like them. i'm not a fan "commercial fish" or even the parot fish hybrids. the glow in the dark fish dont bother me as much but we need to ask what would happen if these fish were released into the ...

TONS of loaches on aquabid.com from franks aquarium

the emperor for 90.00 hurts my feelings. But he does have a Vaillantella maassi for 10.00 and some Sinibotia robusta which i havent seen for sale recently.

kubatai pictures and thoughts on pattern variation.....

Botia Kubatai are probably my favorite botia next to histironicas. they have such a great presonality and a wide pattern variation. the loach with the larger spots has always had a really dark tone to his skin since i've had him. i just thought this picture showed a good contrast of pattern. Sorry f...

an amazing loach. they are active and full of character. they are pretty social so i'd say 4+ would be ideal. they really like a sand substrate too. i had some breed a few years ago and the babies were soo cute. i've heard there are 2 very similar species of these loach. one gets slightly bigger tha...

40 gallon breeder tank update with new pics

bit of an update. everything is growing well. i'm getting green spot algae on the back wall which i will probably scrub since its seemed to slow down the growth of my anubius. i'll probably trim some java moss too. http://www.loachtank.org/albums/userpics/10060/IMG_81051~0.jpg http://www.loachtank.o...
