Okay, I'm going to attempt to post pics here. The "Red Cactus" L114: That didn't work, can anyone tell me why? Here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49654217@N04/4598925266/ The Bristlenose Tank Raised (the LPS had written TR on the tank, not TP, and it was for "tank raised") http://www.flic...

Thanks, I soaked it last night, and even dropped the carbon I removed from the tank into the bucket with the wood. It turned the wood really brown, probably because everything I was trying to boil out ended up being absorbed back into the wood as the water level steadily decreased. It doesn't look t...

That makes complete sense. I am still reducing the salt because I trust this site's experience with loaches far more than a LPS who doesn't deal primarily with clown loaches. Any recommendation on a UV sterilizer brand? I know there are lots on ebay for cheap, but I've read they aren't the best, and...

Nice to know I'm not the only one! It's not "that bad" I'm soaking it again now, and I was going to try to scrub it if I can find something to scrub it with that hasn't been used with soap or cleaning fluids.

If it finally rinses clean do you think it will be safe?

Over boiled mopani wood!

I decided to boil the mopani wood I just bought at the local pet shop, but forgot it was boiling until all of the water had evaporated and the bottom of the pan was burnt. The wood is much darker than it was when I got it and I wonder if it will be okay in a tank, or do I have to just chuck it?

I'll check out TDS meters today on ebay and get one. My head spins when it comes to doing the right thing for them. I remember when I started the tank learning that "all fish need some salt" and was told that 1Tbsp per 5 gallons was best and would be good for the clowns. I was at a pet store over th...

I haven't used a great deal of salt in my tanks, just 1 Tbsp per 5 Gallons. I only added salt for new water that was added after a water change, so I want to make sure that it is not assumed that I put a lot of salt in carelessly. I've used salt from the day I set up my 55 gallon, which was 9 years ...

Threadfin rainbow with fin disease

My clowns have been doing "okay". They still have some patchy coloration, but I'm giving them time to heal from the MarOxy and other meds they've endured lately. Now I have a Threadfin Rainbow that looks very skinny, but I'm not sure if there's really anything "wrong" with him. A different threadfin...

I went to the store and picked up a Leopard Pleco - L114. He's beautiful! I was hesitant to pay so much for him, but he really took my breath away when I saw him. I also picked up three clown loaches and another Pleco that was not clearly identified. It has some light spots all over, but it was very...

JonasBygdemo, I mixed up the two Plecos. The L114 is going for $40 plus, I'm going to a few pet stores tomorrow to find a pleco. I'll let you know what the L001 is going for if I see any of them. They are also beautiful Plecos!

I can get black diamond, so that's what I'll buy. Diana, everything you said makes total sense. I will be doing even more water changes - every other or every 3 days just to keep the water as clean as possible so they can heal. I was doing the salt treatment at 1Tbsp per 5 Gallons, but up until abou...

Well, they're not cheap around here! I have a price from two places and they are $40 US from one place and $60 US from the other! That's a little high, but I'm still trying to decide. Are you outside of the US? If you don't want to say I understand.

Here are a few more pics of the tank and my clowns: This is the whole tank - I was doing a water change so everyone was out and about! http://www.flickr.com/photos/49654217@N04/4563830616/#comment72157623957698990 Here's the clown I'm most worried about - you can't see it in the picture but he has s...

Jyynx, that's exactly the feedback I wanted to hear! I am feeling a little more optimistic about the L114 now. Thank you so much, and good luck with yours!

Diana, do you use the AC to remove any medications from the water?
