hi there forum chums i have 3 clowns 7 neons 1 gold spotted plec and i have just today bought 2 yo yo"s which are just babies can anyone tell me if they are ok to put in with the neons they have alredy started chasing them the clown dont bother any more after they had a feast 1 night and left me wi 7?

Hi Stephen,

Yo-yo's can be a little more aggressive than some other loaches, such as Clowns. Whilst your Yo-yo's are small they will probably chase your Neons out of curiosity. But when the Yo-yo's get bigger, and with the Neons being such small peaceful fish, the loaches could become a real threat to them - particularly if kept in a smallish sized aquarium. Sometimes, faster shoaling fish such as Danios or even Barbs work better as dither fish for certain species of loach, and providing your loaches with plenty of space will help reduce the problem. You should also think seriously about purchasing at least one more Yo-yo. Two of them could spell trouble, as they will constantly pick at each other. Larger numbers will help to spread this aggression, and no one fish will bear the brunt of it all.

thanks for the info there i have a 65L tank and i thought that if i had 3 clowns and 3 yo yo's and a plec that my neons would go over night so i just got the 2 but the neons are just for decoration so i could get rid of them and get another yo yo

With Botiine loaches, the more you have, the happier they will be. However, you are going to need a larger tank pretty soon as Clown loaches grow quickly and can get to around 12" (30cm) long.

i notced how big my clowns were 2day compaired 2 the yo yo the clowns have started chasing the yo yo's should i worry 2night when the light is off

I have had 10 or so neons with a really big dario, kubs, and zebras. No probs. That said who can really say what will happen.
I wouldn't sweat it though. Leave them in. It'll be far more work taking them out then it is worth.
A year or so I lost almost all my "porkchops" in my zebra tank after being away for 10 days. I can't say what happened. I still have my zebras and they don't seem to have a taste for the neons. But then again I haven't been gone so long since that time.

My brother wanted cardnial tetras reall bad. He has a 540 gallon tank too. So the people at the store said all that room , you won't have any proablem. Well he bought 50 carndinal tetras. Took them home put them in the tank and in a matter of seconds the congo tetras in the tank. And angle fish slattered them. They were large cardinals. So you don't never know. But when you think there might be a problem. But you self in the fishes place. You probaly won't continue.
