another newbie looking for information

Post by Conagher » Fri Feb 20, 2015 9:45 pm

Good evening!
After several attempts to find a listing or any other information regarding African loaches, I joined up in hopes that someone might be able to at least point me in the right direction. Does anyone know of where I can find a list of the loaches indigenous to Africa? especially central Africa (Dem. Rep. of Congo)?

I have a planted African biotope tank that I am trying to diversify the tank a little bit and thought a loach or too might be a nice addition.
Currently I have:
  • 2 Polyperus delhezi
    1 albino P. senegalus
    1 Ropefish
1 Pantodon buchholzi (African butterfly fish)
2 mastcembelus moorii (African spiny eel)
    1 African brown knife fish
2 Ctenopoma acutirostre (African Bush Fish)
I am looking for a couple more African butterfly fish, and Ropefish and an Ornate bichir

Many thanks for any assistance anyone can provide in my search for information about African loaches!

Yes, there are loaches in Africa, but in the East only (Nile, rather than Congo). I don't think anyone ever got them, no export from Egypt/Sudan/Ethiopia.

I had read that there were a few species, but I could not find any where what those species were.
Sounds like they are pretty much impossible to obtain, so I guess I will cross that idea off of my list.

Thanks for the confirmation
