I am seeking advice about stocking a 40 gallon breeder. I currently have a group of 8 kubotai botias with 2 botia striata and a single botia rostrata. They live in a 5' 120 gallon with a group of four buffalo head cichlids (steatocranus casuarius) and three dwarf SA bumble bee catfish.
I am planning on breaking up the group of b-heads and keeping the dominant male, who is about 5" long, in a 40 breeder. I would like to keep as many of the botias as possible with him. My plan is to keep the 2 striped botias and 5 of the kubotai.
Does this seem like an acceptable stocking level for a 40 breeder? I run an Emperor 400 and a large Hydro sponge on the tank, and do 30-40% water change weekly.
Thanks.

Re: Stocking question
Move all of one species, don''t split up the school of Kubotais. I would keep the Kubotais in the larger tank, and move the Striatas to the 40 gal, and add more to make a good social group.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.
