Stiphodon maculidorsalis (New species)
Hi everyone!
A scientific name of Stiphodon.sp(Orange fin & spots on the head) which has remained without a scientific name for a long time was decided formally in Stiphodon maculidorsalis.
It seems that "maculidorsalis" means the back with spots.
Stiphodon maculidorsa was published an article as a new species of the Stiphodon genus on August 30, 2013 by Dr. Maeda
He is also known as the detector of S.alcedo.

I uploaded some picturess and videos to celebrate the naming.
Stiphodon maculidorsalis "Orange-fin" which is sometimes mixed in import of Stiphodon.sp(Rainbow-color).
Its dorsal fin becomes sometimes orange, but it isn't always orange.
I think that "Spotted Head" is more suitable for their plain feature.
And most of Stiphodon.sp(Rainbow-color) seem to be Stiphodon ornatus.

thank you for your sharing.
I'll go take pictures of my fishes for will show you.
Unfortunately I have no females.
Have you ever seen a love parade with this fish?
I have found a picture of an Indonesian wholesaler and I have not been able to indentify the species.

Stiphodon Goby in Okinawa JAPAN
Hi everyone!
I traveled to Okinawa in November and took lot of photos underwater in some rivers.
Okinawa is a district of Japan at the south end and is a sub-tropical climate.
Many amphidromous fish have been carried from the tropics by the Kuroshio Current.
I want to show the habits of nature of gobies of several kinds of Sicydiinae.
A new species of the Stiphodon genus was authorized again in Okinawa a few days ago.
The name is Stiphodon niraikanaiensis.
This new species was also discovered by Dr. Maeda.
http://link.springer.com/article/10.100 ... 013-0379-2
Unfortunately I have not yet watched the new species.
At least seven species of Stiphodon genus is confirmed in Okinawa of Japan.
(Inhabiting a lot)
Stiphodon percnopterygionus
Stiphodon alcedo
(It is slightly difficult to find it)
Stiphodon atropurpureus
(It is extremely difficult to find it)
Stiphodon imperiorientis
(Just several bodies were confirmed)
Stiphodon multisquamus
Stiphodon surrufus
(New species)
Stiphodon niraikanaiensis
Even if it is an extremely rare species in Japan, there may be their main habitat somewhere in tropics.
Stiphodon alcedo
Stiphodon alcedo that did not inhabit before spread very much recently.
Male nuptial coloration is extremely various.
There is the individual becoming black, and there is one becoming bright red.
The video clip is in Youtube. http://youtu.be/rTanoaHxs-U
Stiphodon percnopterygionus
It is most common Stiphodon seen in Okinawa.
The video clip is in Youtube. http://youtu.be/mumOXCPTvg0
Stiphodon atropurpureus
The population in Japan is small, but it has been teeming in Cebu in the Philippines.
The video clip is in Youtube. http://youtu.be/nZtT4ihydKE
Lentipes armatus
They are living a lot but, underwater photography is difficult because it is very shallow rapids habitat.
Sicyopus zosterophorum
Population is small in Japan, but in the Philippines, they are teeming.
Sicyopus cebuensis
It can not only be seen in very rare in Japan, but in the Philippines, they are teeming.
I traveled to Palau and Guam two weeks ago and visited some rivers.
I took lot of pictures of Stiphodon, but am still arranging it.
I will show them as soon as rearranging is over.

Stiphodon pelewensis in GUAM
Hi everyone!
I traveled to Guam and Palau in December of the last year.
I finished the arrangement of photos and videos of river trekking Guam finally.
I participated in river trekking in Guam for two days and explored many waterfalls.
Video clips are on Youtube.

There are many pictures of the freshwater fish of Guam in this site.
http://www.guamreeflife.com/htm/freshwa ... tiphodonsp
Sicyopus sp. The name of this fish may be Smilosicyopus chloe.
Only this fish inhabits the upper reaches of the big waterfall which other fish cannot climb.
Macrobrachium lar. They are inhabit the upper reaches of the big waterfall too.
It stuffed its mouth with rice grain of our lunch.
Anguilla marmorata
awaous guamensis?
Eleotris fusca
Are all stiphodon living in Guam only one species of S.pelewensis?
There are many females near the center of this picture, and a black male is seen on the right side of females.
I introduced Stiphodon to the girls who joined trekking.
It is such a scene in the water which she watches with the upper picture.
I am just going to organize photos and videos of Palau current.

Beautiful as always odyssey! I'm envious of your travels!!
Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Hi plaalye!
My old sports sandals were broken at the bottom of the gorge on the way of the trekking and were not able to walk.
The trekking guide gave me his sports sandals then. And he walked barefoot afterwards.
I'm grateful to him really.
I was able to take these photos and videos by his help.
In fact, I have fallen into the critical situation during river trekking of Guam.plaalye wrote:I'm envious of your travels!!

Stiphodon pelewensis in PALAU
Hi everyone!
I also visited Plau.
I went some rivers and jellyfish lake.
But I didn't do diving this time though one of my hobbies was scuba diving.
Then I was able to watch more Stiphodon in Palau.
There were two types of male, dark brown one and black-and-white one.
I doubt whether two types of them are really identical S.pelewensis.
Is there the person having the information about it?
Three video clips are on Youtube.
No1 River

No2 River
http://youtu.be/cf7CIoatQ9Q
No3 River
http://youtu.be/GWl3mCucYTA
I explored three rivers.
Two rivers of the first half were short distances from a road.
There seemed to be very few populations, but I was also able to confirm stiphodon percnopterygionus.
The distribution of S.percnopterygionus is very wide.
Stiphodon pelewensis. Male is black-and-white type.
Is the male of this dark brown type also S.pelewensis ?
I do not know what this fish is.
Atyopsis spinipes?
The third river was very far from a road.
But there was a big waterfall and very beautiful.
As for the female, the design of the body does not have the unique characteristic.
Male of black-and-white type.
Male of dark brown type.
Smilosicyopus chloe
Sicyopterus lagocephalus

courtship behavior of Sicyopus zosterophorum
Hi everyone!
In Japanese, the name of "Bouzu-haze" is given in genus Sicyopterus, Stiphodon, Lentipes and Sicyopus.
Japanese name of Sicyopus zosterophorum is Aka-Bouzu-haze
It means Red Buddhist Monk Goby.
I was able to observe the courtship behavior of pairs of Sicyopus zosterophorum in my aquarium tank recently.
These are video and photos at that time.
The video is on Youtube.
http://youtu.be/CVBXOT4NXJ4
As for the male color of the body, black, white, red change vividly.
And the male bends a tailpiece and appeals to a female for a vivid color of the body.
