Aufwuchs party/king of the rock!

Post by plaalye » Fri Jan 01, 2010 6:54 pm

Brought the last algae encrusted rock in from outside as the weather turned cold. The gastros & gobies had fun cleaning it off and vying for position, even the rainbows joined in!

Thanks Nancy. Goby ID's are questionable? stiphodon sp. rainbow, sicyopterus sp., sicyopus sp., possibly s. exallisquamulus. Does that help? :D

It amazes me how quickly gastros will clean off a rock like that.

Me too Jim! The bigger of the two g. ocellatus in the tank will push anybody off, including the sicyopterus that's 4 or 5 times it's size. It's the first gastro I've had that has readily taken my offered foods. It was very small when I got it but has grown quickly!

They are splendid scenes.
The fish doing algae grazing is the act that I like most.

Did the stone with the algae introduce it from the outside of the water tank?
How would you bring up algae?
I am not used to English. Therefore,It is likely to sometimes misunderstand it.

I'm partial to the grazers too odyssey. I had a 10 gal tank outside on the South facing deck all summer. I added water from my fish tanks after changes and kept rotating rocks & small pieces of driftwood as they were cleaned by the fish. Also had various wigglers appear that I siphoned off with a turkey baster, fish loved them!

Thanks for sharing, nice vids and nice gobies also.

Wish I had the energy to recycle the decorations to grow aufwuchs on them like you do. My admiration for that.
