Advice needed on feeding gobies (Sicyopus?)

Post by pepedopolous » Tue Apr 04, 2017 5:14 pm

Hi,

I have some gobies in a hillstream aquarium which also has Sewellia lineolata and Gastromyzon sp..

I bought 4 'Stiphodon sp undio blue' and I'm fairly sure they are Stiphodon atropurpureus.

I've had these blue gobies and the loaches for a month now and they are doing really well and grazing the natural algae in the aquarium as well as the gel food I give them every day or so (Repashy Soilent Green).

Today I picked up 3 gobies which were sold as 'Stiphodon sp. red neon sumatra goby'. Unfortunately, I think that they are not Stiphodon at all. They look like the goby in the photo below except paler and more transparent (I guess due to stress). This isn't my photo but is from the big Stiphodon thread here. Image

Later in the Stiphodon thread, they are identified as some type of Sicyopus goby which share the same habitats as Stiphodon but are carnivores.

I am concerned that they might starve if I don't give them something specific to eat. Does anyone have some advice on this? Perhaps I could try frozen or freeze dried bloodworm? All the fish I've kept before have been easy species which accept flake food and pellets. I really would prefer some frozen or gel product if possible...

Thanks in advance,

P

hi pepedopolous!

I suppose that your goby is Sicyopus jonklaasi.
It is sometimes called "lipstick goby".
The Sicyopus genus eats red blood worms well.

I am not used to English. Therefore,It is likely to sometimes misunderstand it.
