Clown Loach Ick

Post by Laura Jager » Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:00 am

I have quarantined (for 3 weeks) and added 3 (2.5") clown loaches to my main aquarium, the temperature is 82 degrees, water parameters great. I noticed one white spot on one of the loaches forehead last night. There are no signs of flashing; however should I begin to treat for ick or wait longer to see if more spots are revealed?

Hard to say if one spot is Ich or something else. Make sure you have Ich medicine available (weekend coming up, stores may be closed) and I would wait to see if any more spots show up.

One white spot that may not stand out like Ich, but might be mistaken for Ich as a fish darts around the aquarium could easily be a minor scrape, not Ich at all. If the fish was holding still (more or less) and you got a good look at it, and you know it is not such a minor scrape then it might be Ich. Be ready, just in case.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
