bit of a weird illness one really

Post by KhuliKhilla » Wed Oct 08, 2008 4:36 pm

i bought 10 purple emperor tetra last week Inpaichthys kerri

that night one of them looked as iof patches has washed out on its skin, now, this asnt the normal faded pattern but distinct [patches with a clear border. it looked for al the world like it had been dipped in bleach or omething. it died the next day.

a couple days ago another one appeared with the same thing on its caudal area - dead within hours. when i got home from work- another had th pathes an is now missing.

whatevr this is, it isnt something on the surface like a fungus, it looks as if its under the skin itself. im almost through a week course of Pimafix.

im crap at using Dave's camera so cant get a good pic - at the moment none seem to have it.

anyone have any ideas what it might be?

cheers

Research Neon Tetra Disease.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

i think Diana's on the right track with NTD, but with a slight variation i too have seen this disease and i could'nt find a cure to stop it.
it mainly occurs with SA characins but if it's the same disease this starts right on the peduncle and does'nt get much further.
as to what.?

like i said it mainly happens with SA characins, it's very very rare for it to carry on towards Asian fish, so i'm sure your loaches wont get it.

Such pretty fish too :( I think we're going to wait to get up to Emma's before buying any more dithers.

maybe it is all a plot between the loaches and plecs. no new newcomers to the tank - it thier territory and the upper reaches will remain clear!

i think more of those I. kerri are called for at some point
