Do loaches need a companion?

Post by lopinto » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:13 pm

My 11-year-old Dojo Loach just died, leaving it's companion, a smaller Dojo, alone. Is it very important that I get another one? I don't have an extra tank and the energy for the quarantine, etc. that is needed. In the past I've just acclimated the fish to the water slowly by changing out the water in it's bag from the store, and plopped them in. I've never had any illness, parasites, etc. in all these years, but I don't want to push my luck by getting a new one and not using quarantine.

Anyway, will my Dojo languish now that it is alone? There are a few minnows in the tank with it now.
