Skinny Clown loach with swim bladder problem

Post by jeans » Wed Dec 08, 2010 6:01 pm

Hi

I'm new to this forum. Was hoping someone could help me out. I've a 50 litre tank, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, pH 7.5, approx 28 deg C. Doing 30% water changes every month or so. 4 clown loach, 4 cardinals, 5 rummy nose tetras.

I have an apparently sick clown loach. About 5 years old, 3 inches long. Has had swim bladder problem for about 4 months. All other fish totally healthy, no signs of disease. Have tried feeding peas and other veg, normally feed fish with flakes and pellets, occasional frozen bloodworms. Have tried soaking food before feeding, occasionally buoyancy will return to normal and loach will sit on bottom. Have tried medicating in case it was sign of infection, used swim bladder treatment containing bronopol, formaldehyde and benzalkonium Cl, after using aqualibrium salts first. This did nothing (except kill one of my cardinals).

Recently fish has started to look pallid/ashy grey colour, losing orange/black in comparison to other 3. Fish also losing weight, very skinny, spine prominent. Still behaves normally apart from swim bladder, feeding well enough, interacting with other fish.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
