Finrot on new clown

Post by squid » Wed Dec 03, 2014 5:12 am

I just brought home
A 7 inch clown loach, problem is i did not acclimate him
Correctly:( he was in a pail , i added some
Tank water to the pail
He was in, after about 20
Minutes i was planning to bag him
And float the bag but my plastic bag was too small so i just dumped him into my tank , the next day he was just hiding in a pvc pipe, after 2 days i finally see him out but his tail has fin rot, would appreciate advise, ive added salt to my tank as i have good expereince with salt. Anything
Else i can do? Problem
Is im flying out of the country:( so cant really monitor him

Fin rot is often caused by any of several bacteria.
Salt may or may not help against the bacteria. It can help the fish feel better. Low dose for Loaches, of course.

I would start with a water change that emphasizes cleaning the floor of the tank, especially inside all the caves or other places that the fish might hide. The accumulated debris tends to help the bacteria, not the fish. Then, when you add medicine the medicine might latch onto the debris, not the disease organisms, so the medicine is wasted.

If water changes do not help then look for medication that treats Gram negative bacteria.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
