My biggest Pangio myersi just keeps getting bigger

I guess she's just full of eggs - there are another dozen Pangio loaches in the same tank and none of them are anything like as big as this one. She almost looks figure-8 shaped in cross-section.

But should I be worried and is there anything I should do?

She is very active at the moment, doesn't look unwell or anything, just very gravid (I think). I'm not sure if I have any Pangio myersi males in there.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks,

She just looks like a gravid loach to me. I wouldn't worry as long as she is acting normal.

Thanks for the reassurance :)
She's certainly acting pretty normal, if anything a bit more active than usual. She doesn't seem ill.

Hopefully she will try and spawn.

I've got a mixture of P.myersi, P.oblonga and P.kuhlii/semicincta in the tank, about 15 in total, but I'm not certain of their sexes apart from this one.

Cheers,
Paul

It's been a while since I wrote this thread. I'm trying to downsize my fish activities and decided to close down the loach tank and sell my group of Pangio loaches.

Catching them out of the tank into a bucket I had a little surprise turn up!

Edit: sorry, those pictures have come in far too big. Try this:

I'd seen (and videoed) them spawning several times but hadn't expected any eggs to survive the hungry mouths of the adults.

I've kept the little one because I want to see if it grows up to be a Pangio myersi or a Pangio kuhlii.

Cheers,
Paul

It's been a while since I last posted on this thread, in fact I see I didn't even mention the discovery of a second baby loach.

Anyway, I'd sold all the adults and kept the tiddlers, and now they've both grown up. They're fairly shy but occasionally to be seen out and about. After a water-change and a treat of live worms, one of them came out and started doing laps of the tank. Needless to say, by the time I had fetched the camera it had gone to ground. A frustrating 20 minutes ensued, as a variety of Corydoras either photo-bombed or chased away both the kuhlis. Eventually I managed some good photos of one, and a poor photo of the other.

Now that they've grown up, they look a lot like their mother including the strong colouration (pics higher up in the thread). I suspect they may both be females - certainly the one that posed for photos has a 'figure 8' cross-section.

Paul
