Fenbendazole dosage

Post by plaalye » Sun Mar 01, 2009 6:29 pm

I've been searching for flubendazole but could only find fenbedazole in the form of "safe-guard" dog wormer powder. The only dosage info I can find is to be added to feed. I want to treat my hillstreams and most of them don't eat other than algae/aufwuchs so I'm looking to add it to the water. I know I've seen reference to this but can't seem to find it. Any help greatly appreciated!

Here's Charles' (Inkmaker's) site:
http://inkmkr.com/Fish/#anchor1234

scroll down the page to just before the request form and you'll see a link to a pdf on how to use it.
or - contact him directly through his site. he's a good guy and very helpful. 8)

Thanks Shari! Are flubendazole and fenbendazole interchangeable as far as treatment and dosage then?

Here is the reply that I received from Charles. He was very helpful. He also has flubendazole for sale at the link Shari provided.

"Fenbendazole and Flubendazole are very different in activity and solubility. Fenbendazole must be eaten and metabolized to make it work. Flubendazole has 3 times greater solubility. It is active absorbed through the skin and gills. It does not have to be eaten. It is easier to dose because one does not need to know how much has been eaten. One makes a concentrated solution in aquarium water and the dosing is done."

Sounds like you may have to make a food that they will eat.
Have you tried any of these:
1) The recipe here at Loaches. You can add meds to it. You do have to know how much your fish eat and how much meds per day you want to give them.
2) Mix a slurry of whatever they like and smear it on some rocks. Dry the mess. Put the rocks in the tank. I have heard of doing this with flake or pellet foods. I would assume it would work for almost any food that you could get into a slurry. The problem is adding the meds. I do not know if they will still be active once they have been wet then dried.

Maybe best to order the other medicine.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

I got some flubendazole from Charles. I want to dose my rivertank and I can't get my gastromyzons to eat anything I offer so the feeding route won't work. I've tried the food smeared on rocks and every other trick I've come across. Here's a link to a thread in another forum by someone who has used fenbendazole succesfully.
