We got some photos from our builder. Its very exciting to see the house being built. I wish I could be there but I'm two thousand miles away. Not an easy commute.

I know it has already been said but what an amazing view! How's the fishing in the waters your home will overlook?

I wish I could tell you but I've never fished there. I plan to give it a go when we are settled. I've heard there are many types of trout that are easy to catch and there are some nearby lakes that have both small and large mouth bass.
I know hunting is another popular sport there and we've seen moose tracks on our property. However, I took Bambi to heart as a kid and I think I'd get sick trying to hunt. Its not worth it for me to try and get over it because I don't like the gamey taste anyway. |

Not to convince you otherwise or anything.. But wild game doesn't have to have gamey flavor.. Its all in how its prepared.
Of course a big hunk of wild meat will taste wild.. I am not disputing that. But if you put say venison in chili or stew you would be hard pressed to know that you were eating a deer instead of a cow. Also, how its taken care of goes a long way in determining the final flavor.. In my humble opinion people who hang deer in trees for days at a time are not doing themselves any favors with regard to flavor..
That all being said, what an incredible view!!! Are you going to have neighbors close? Like is this going to be a string of houses being developed or it is pretty remote? _________________ I trust that this proposition needs only to be looked at by an American to be seen in its true point of view and that we shall all consider ourselves unauthorized to saddle posterity with our debts and morally bound to pay them ourselves-Thomas Jefferson |

There is one fairly close neighbor but I don't think we will see that house unless we walk the driveway to the road. The subdivision is a group of lots that are 5 or more acres each and the house sights are designed for privacy. I've heard that ours is only the second building permit issued for the entire county in 2009 and some of the lots are now bank owned because of the economic downturn. I doubt we will have any new neighbors for a while.
I just wished we had purchased the land after the economic downturn since it would cost a whole lot less now than we paid for it. As it stands, we will pay a lot more to build this house than what it will be appraised for. I guess we can live with that since we don't plan to sell it anytime soon. |

Awesome! Sounds like a great place to be!
Starting off with nicely insulated foundation! Going green are we?

The whole house is planned with insulating concrete forms (ICFs) and we are using a geothermal system for heating and cooling. It adds a lot to the cost of the home. We just want to do things right. We feel that most construction is done on the cheap. We may cut costs on things that don't matter like fancy chandeliers but the house is going to be solid. No particle board!
There is a tax break for the geothermal system so it may reduce the costs enough that it will pay for itself down the road (perhaps not in our lifetime). The ICF construction should make the house more comfortable with less air permeation than conventional framing. I guess its going to be "more green" than most of the junk homes being built but being green to us is building a house that lasts into the future. |

I looked at that area when searching for a spot for our horse business and found that there's lots of great fishing there. The rivers and streams are full of trout and the big lake has some monster trout in it if you don't mind fishing deep with heavy tackle. _________________ “Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts.”
