Kuhli Loaches hiding

Post by Loach777 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:13 am

I would like to kuhli loaches but my LFS owner said that he once had them and that he never saw them because they hide all the time. I don't want to get a fish that hides all the time but I like kuhli loaches - has anyone had experience with them hiding?

Kuhlie Loaches do not hide all the time. They do have more active periods and quiet periods.
Mine are most busy at dawn and dusk, and are hidden during the day.
Kuhlies are more visible when you have a good sized school (at least 6). If you just have a few, they do tend to hide more.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

My kuhli loaches never hide either. They are always out at all times of the day, looking for food, hanging out in plants, and dancing!

As stated above, a huge key is to have a nice group. I have 7. I'd love to get even more!

Also, I can't say for sure, but I believe that they are a lot happier in a heavily planted tank. I also have a rock cave for them and a few pots on their sides, though they really don't hide very often. They feel more secure knowing that they have a place to hide if they need it.

Yes, that was my impression before I joined this site - that they would hide all the time.

A passerby noticed my largest aquarium through my living room window as it was lit up on dark nights.

As an unsucessful fishkeeper he wanted to give me his two remaining fish, a mature female Krib and a large single Kuhli Loach, so he knocked on my door.

To save these two healthy fish, I took them off his hands and added them to my Clown Loach aquarium.

The Krib proved to be a lovely addition to my aquarium and later bred when I purchased a male. However, I never saw the Kuhli Loach again!

My brother has since kept Kuhli Loaches in a group. They could be seen at any time foraging on the substrate among the dense plants.
6 x Clown Loaches all 30 years of age on 01.01.2024, largest 11.5", 2 large females, 4 smaller males, aquarium 6' x 18" x 18" 400 ltr/90 uk gal/110 US gal. approx.

The Kuhli Loaches have decided to hide behind a piece of drift wood. One came up to the glass and I managed to photograph it. http://s1146.photobucket.com/albums/o53 ... G_2913.jpg
I hope I get the photo link right because it is my first!

The Kuhli loaches seemed to be more active this morning and I saw a perfect picture with a Kuhli loach sitting on a plant.I turned my camera on,then I pointed it at the loach and pushed the button. The camera turned off.An ominous phrase appeared :Change the batteries!!! :x :x :x The loach swam away.

I keep my battery charged, SD cards empty, and the camera right by the tank by default!

I am always taking pictures and video of my kuhlis. They are just so fun!

You'll find that they love to drape themselves in the plants.

Also, be ready with the camera and some popcorn when you do your first water change with them, if you haven't already! Mine LOVE water changes!

I've read all these responses but I have only seen my Khuli loach a couple of times when I was cleaning the tank. He's quite young.
