Levamisole Hydrochloride dosing Q
I'm needing to dose this stuff, and the math has me off.
I have 80 (314L) gallons of water (75 gal with wet/dry)
So to get 10ppm is this what I think I should do.
Lev. Hyd. is 80% levamisole
320L x 10 (for ppm) / 800 gives me 4, so I'd add just under a teaspoon (4ml) of dry meds after disolving that in some random ammount of water?
I just realised I probably put this in the wrong section, sorry mods.

Welcome to LOL. Since we don't have a specific disease and treatment section (yet ) this is as good a place as any, better than the OT, anyway! Why are you treating with it? What fish?
Here's a link to a thread on Levamisole from a while back:
http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php ... c&start=60
It includes a dosing calculator chefkeith created in the midst of the research frenzy.
It was also found that the current dosage recommendation is for 2ppm.
.................
what type of levamisole do you have? The powdered, mix with water first type? If so, use the lower section of the dosage calculator, 80g @ 2ppm means you need .021 ounces or about .6 grams. Divide your powder into the right weight for your tank, mix with tank water, then add to the tank after a largish water change. Store what you don't need in a dry, opaque, covered container in the fridge for another treatment in 2 weeks (and possibly a third after that). One bottle should treat alot of water at 2ppm.

I almost forgot about those dosage calculators.
Here's a direct link to them-

For 100% Levamisole Hydrochloride in powder form (Levasole, Soluble Pig wormer)
1 teas= 4 grams
.5 teas =2 grams
.25 teas= 1 gram

Hoping to get going on an article on levamisole for the new site. Got anything you'd like to contribute? If I have q's on the math you know who I'm asking...

I resently finished 2 treatments of Levamisole on my tanks.
I still don't know what to think.
I have 2 skinny clown loaches in particular that I've been worried about. I'm not sure if they had any internal nematodes or worms. I think the main reason they are skinny is that they won't eat any of the main staple foods. To keep them from food competition from the others, I recently put them in the 20g refugium that's connected to the main tanks. I'll try my best to fatten them up on some specialty foods.

The best results in treating skinny clowns (which I have read) has not been with levamisole alone. It generally works best on skinny in concert with an antibiotic. Seems what we call 'skinny' is likely caused by a multiplicity of factors. I'm working on that, too.

Thanks all for the replies, they're very helpful!
Chef, that calculator is also very helpfull for finding the grams to be used for certain PPM.
I've read through the other thread probably 3 times while sorting stuff out on my end, and it only left me with a couple more questions.
The teaspoon=gram measurement could be the single most helpfull dosage information for me, aswell as the people at Pleco Fanatics who've been discussing this with me.
I'm not trying to be difficult, but was that found by using the specific gravity of levamisole hydrochloride? If so, could you please pass on that number? Seems it's worth it's weight in gold in getting a mL=gram measurement.
Hey shari, didn't you post at pleco fanatics from time to time a while back?
As to your question,
I have the powderd form, 20 and some change grams, with 18 and change active ingredients. So that calculator was just what the doctor orderd...almost. Now all I need is the specific gravity of Lev hydro. powder so I can convert it to mL.
Thanks again for all the help,
Jason

don't know if this page will help with specific gravity but here it is:
http://nz.merial.com/pdf/all_min_levamisole_msds.pdf
and yes, I got alot of excellent info and advice there not too long ago. Had a royal panaque that came down with panaque plaque. He's alive and well now thanks to geco, kittyfish and levamisole/copper sulfate.

No, I used a pocket scale that measures to the nearest 0.1 gram.MilitantPotato wrote:

Over on the fresh water forum everyone was getting into a big debate about this stuff as i had a loach with skinny desiese. I ended up using Flubenol which is made for fish. i was so woried i would kill my loach with the Lev as its meant for farm animals. Ive read lots of good things on it but was scared to use it as some people advised against it. Let me know what happens to your loach please
thanks
thanks

I updated the calculator. It now has Teaspoons on the dosage amounts. This should help those who don't have scales.

Hey all, just a quick update on the dosing deal, I finally figured the specific gravity and conversion into ML's. Sorry about getting back to you all so late.
Levamisole hydrochloride (dry) has a specific gravity of .69724, so if you have 3.5g as the dosing recommendation using chefkeith's calculator, you'd do
3.5/.69724=5.05mL So one teaspoon
Thanks to the work someone did and posted on this site about the mole weight, I was able to figure out the specific gravity and the gram-mL conversion.
Here's the post I made a PF about the whole ordeal.

and here's the post that it all came together with (page 2)

Thanks again for all the help!
I treated my fish and they're now gaining weight and coloring back up.
P.S. That calculator is awsome Keith.
Would you mind editing the measurement to reflect the grams/.69724=mL ?
