I've got five of them.
They were all labeled as G. punctulatus.
It was the first time I spotted the viriosus overhere and couldn't resist taking some home.

I had forgotten about this thread.
The dark colored zebrinus like fish are very similar to the mystery gastromyson I found a few weeks ago. I wonder if they are a local variation of Gastromyzon zebrinus or another of the ridens group?
My fish, like these, is much darker with fainter markings, than the other zebrinus I have.

Most of the ten G. zebrinus I've got can be very dark.
The 3 biggest ones (around 6 cm TL) have somewhat fainter markings that almost completely disappear when they have a territorial dispute.

But they can also be lightbrown, darkgreen, darkbrown etc.. It depends on the surface they're on.
I've got only one that's a bit different; It's always chocolate brown and has different markings in the caudal fin.

The chocolate brown one has only some faint blue at the tip of the caudal.

Looking at Dr. Tan's book, no mention of red in the caudal fin of g. zebrinas. The head markings aren't right either, look more like g. crenastus which can have red in the caudal. ??????

Aha you finally got a copy Jim! I had a look through the book when Henri originally posted this fish and couldn't match it to any of the described species. Dr. Tan doesn't mention red in the caudal of G. zebrinus but neither blue in the dorsal of G. scitulus which some specimens do have so maybe these features vary with population?

Yeah Matt, finally! I ordered from Singapore and it got lost in the mail for 2 months. I thought it was lost for good and then just showed up one day, great book!
Soooo many variations. If I had another lifetime I'd move to Bormeo and study these down to the genetics!
