Pics of the new Hillstream Loaches!

Post by Emma Turner » Mon Oct 16, 2006 1:58 pm

As promised, here are lots of photgraphs of the new hillstream loaches that came in last Tuesday evening by mistake/misidentification. :D They were in a bag labelled 'Aborichthys sp'.  The question is do we still think they might be Homaloptera gymnogaster? They have amazing colour/pattern changing capabilities, which you will see in the pics:

First of all, views of the undersides of these little chaps....

Gathering around the extra powerhead that's in their stock tank....

A close-up....
Image

On the bogwood, they assume a dark coloration and patterning....
Image

On the silica sand, they take on a golden colour to match the substrate - only seems to take them a few seconds to transform....
Image

Image

They seem to have huge nasal nares....

Another close-up....

They all have dark patches on the top of their heads, between the eyes. Particularly noticeable in this specimen....
Image

This one is an example of a fish that is not displaying a huge amount of markings. There are a few like this and they do seem perfectly healthy....

Head-on....

A general shot of their stock tank. The flow coming in from the system and the powerhead are just out of view on the left hand side. You can see the amount of fish that have positioned themselves in the flow - on the back glass, the front glass, and the bogwood....

Hope you enjoyed looking through them all.

You went nuts with the camera eh?

Graeme, Mark......what's that line from Jaws?

We're going to need a bigger.......car? truck? was it?

They certainly seem to have that H. gymnocaster , Schistura type appearance. Big whiskers!

Martin.

The rate at which Emma is getting these Loaches in I think it may be cheaper for Graeme to get prices for "air freight"

I am on a strict budget, but then again Im sure the old buy her a present so she cant be angry trick could be used again

Stunning fish Emma, cant wait to hopefully see them first hand :)

I am 2 x amazed.

1) ...was thank thinking of writing something like "... this are pictures describing what "cool" is about ..."
But you have used that word allready...

2) those fish could be longterm friends ... they are "one of my kind" ...

some day I will check how long of a ride it would be to your store Emma :D I´ll show up some day ... (perhaps there will be flight some day ... would be fun)

Cheers
