Why do you like loaches?
As the thread title says, why do you like loaches? I like them for their colorful patterns, variety between species, activity, social nature, unusual behaviors (eg: playing dead), inquisitiveness, relative ease of care, and compatibility with many species. No other type of fish that I am aware of ha...

Re: Angelicus Botia adult size
Haven't been here in a while but I agree with everyone else. They usually only end up at 13-15 cm, so based on that (and AqAdvisor too), 208 liters is likely enough.

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
Doesn't that just mean those species (and the other examples you have in mind) may not be the best clown loach tankmates*? There are also a considerable amount of cases where clown loaches in a tank with other species did not cause any issues to each other. Such as: Myself: My clown loaches share a ...

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
I was not referring to the angelfish when I made that statement, perhaps I should have specified so. Because of the things you mention as well as what redshark1 said (which encompass the loaches bullying/harassing the angelfish, as well as possible habitat differences in the criteria I mentioned), I...

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
So that is my recommendation - I would not want to compromise my Clown Loaches by forcing them to co-habit with other species. May I ask how you arrived to the conclusion that cohabiting with other species necessarily compromises clown loaches? Certainly, there are species unsuitable for them to co...

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?
Thanks Nancy. The ironic thing here is that the weather loaches available at my local aquarium store come from Florida fish farms, meaning they're almost certainly capable of doing well in warmer temperatures since the part of Florida where those farms are is a tropical climate. But then the overbre...

Re: Genetically poor weather loaches?
Thanks Nancy and redshark for commenting. The part on disease in aquaculture being different is interesting, I need to look into it. With regards to temperature, I mostly agree. The only weather loaches I would feel safe keeping at a tropical temperature are those either produced in the fish farms o...

Genetically poor weather loaches?
I see a surprisingly large number of cases of weather loaches running into apparent health problems, despite their alleged hardiness. Such as red spots increasing in size, bloated areas, etc. Has anyone noticed the same? I'm wondering if this is because the weather loaches available for the pet trad...

Weather loaches with zebra loaches question
My question is what the other users' thoughts are on whether weather loaches could act as dither fish for zebra loaches? I have read a topic here on Loaches Online (https://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=16824) that makes me curious about how the tankmates of my future zebra loaches might affect...

Unconventional tankmates for Siamese fighting fish
Wondering what tankmates Loaches Online users have had success keeping Siamese fighting fish with that are not conventional tankmates for them? Before the rescue I took in was killed by a heater malfunction, I was able to have him successfully cohabitate with my clown loaches and pictus catfish. To ...

What are the dimensions of the tank? Plug them into AqAdvisor and you can get a good idea of how suitable it is.

Re: Merry Christmas - Loaches Online style!
Wow, you certainly have some great stories to tell! on the zebras and dwarf chains befriending one another.
Agreed on every tank and loach being different adding up to the fun. Some experimentation as per all your suggestions will be even moreso!
