Re: Merry Christmas - Loaches Online style!
Thanks for the compliments and suggestions Nancy. If any of the suggestions work I'll let you know. The caves are layed out that way because I found my clown loaches to enjoy that layout compared to layouts with more angled caves (likely having to do with less angled caves providing more space outsi...

Re: clown loach compatibility with angelfish, zebra loaches, yoyo and pleco
I would think the extra space in the 1704 liter tank could help mitigate the angelfish being bothered by the loaches. And with that out of the way, I know of nothing in particular preventing them getting along. With regards to yoyos and clowns, although I don't have enough experience with yoyos to t...

Happy New Year! Did you go back & get your hidden treasure MTS? Happy New Year to you as well Nancy! I sure did, thank you for asking! They were still there when the sale had begun, but instead of where I hid them they were out in plain sight. Looks like one of the employees found the treasure! :lo...

Re: yoyo loaches and clown loaches.
That's certainly unexpected. I wonder if I'll see anything like that with my future yoyos.

Re: Merry Christmas - Loaches Online style!
Merry Christmas! Thank you redshark1. In regards to the specific purpose of this thread, I will say that yesterday I had to rush to my local aquarium store to correct a heater malfunction. The official sale had not yet begun, but both of 2 types of caves I intended to by for my existing and future l...

Re: Weather loach tank size
Thanks Bas. You are correct on the conversions of metric/imperial, as well as how much more bulk clown loaches have. The point on greater bulk is likely true to an extent, since the lesser bulk does mean that lesser overall space would be needed to accomodate it. If I see anything that appears to ha...

Weather loach tank size
One thing I notice is that the minimum tank size (at least lengthwise) for weather loaches as given on this site is 122 cm, while for clown loaches it is 183 cm. This discrepancy is curious to me. The largest specimens of both will reach a size of 20-30 cm as adults (so size alone suggests they need...

Questions on daphnia and other frozen food for loaches
Am considering feeding frozen daphnia to my loaches (both the ones I already have and the ones I plan to have), though I can't help but wonder if it's not going to be registered as a food source by them since it seems to be quite transparent and thus hard to find. So I'd like to ask, what is the exp...

Substrate for weather loaches question
Just how deep of sand substrate do weather loaches need to burrow at adult size? I know they will get 20-30 cm and fairly thick once fully grown, so I want to make sure my future weather loaches have enough to burrow in when I get my 2nd 473 liter set up.

Re: Dwarf chain loach catastrophe, and a valuable lesson about quarantine tanks learned
I'm sorry you learned the hard way of the value of QT. It sounds like you had 2 issues: ich (white spot, fairly treatable for the most part) & "skinny" disease (that can be many things) or internal parasites (I'd treat with flubendazole or Levamisole). All are more easily treated in a smaller quara...

Dwarf chain loach catastrophe, and a valuable lesson about quarantine tanks learned
A bit of a backstory: my cousin who I live with is not an aquarist and is not especially overjoyed about me being on the level of fishkeeping I am (slightly more in depth explanation can be found at, https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/setting-up-my-second-loach-tank.743237/#post-83772...

Re: What dither fish do you use for your loaches?
Update on the school of pictus catfish: only day 3 and they seem to be working! I can therefore recommend them to anyone who needs a dither fish for their clown loaches but wants something different from the usual top-midwater schoolers like tetras or tiger barbs. The dwarf chain loaches are conside...
