Re: When Opportunity Knocks.....
Bump of 1 year later with 100% good news! :D The 24K gold weather loach is doing well enough after some bugs were ironed out, the neon kuhli loach is doing well also, and I picked up some new pals for them! Today was the day 22 eel/neon kuhlis I bought in October (which I went to 2 new and awesome p...

Re: When Opportunity Knocks.....
Thank you! I most definitely will: in fact there is a Burmese loach story video coming soon, perhaps even later today.

Re: When Opportunity Knocks.....
Thank you both for checking back! :D Yes, the door has been opened wide open for this opportunity and the weather loaches+single neon kuhli loach survivor are fitting in with the Burmese loaches, black kuhli loaches, and striped kuhli loaches incredibly well. I even made some videos about them.:wink...

Re: Temperature for pictus catfish
That's an interesting observation you made about the pictus catfish and the kuhli loaches thriving at lower temperatures than what is typically recommended. It's great to hear that they are showing no signs of health issues and maintaining their appetite and activity levels. Adjusting the temperatu...

When Opportunity Knocks.....
.....answer the door! In my case it's been knocking not once, not twice, but thrice.:D The first knock came shortly before the Black Friday sales: during my pre-sale local pet store scouting, in a tank of well-fed striped kuhlis that absolutely looked worth buying, were also a couple of neon kuhlis!...

Going where no one has ever gone before - and documenting it!
To my archerfish and pictus catfish tank, I want to try and incorporate a male pumpkinseed. I think it is likely the pumpkinseed will get along with both because they don't conflict with similar sized catfish in the wild and may view the archerfish as a mixed species school pumpkinseeds sometimes jo...

Re: 22+ year old (and counting) pictus catfish
Unfortunately, it has been reported (about 1 month ago) that this fish developed a tumor and had to be put down. It is safe to say he was at least 24 years old at the time of death. We had to put him down last week. He had a tumor growing out of his mouth and could not eat anymore. So we decided to ...

Re: Let's talk the little-known built-in biomedia of a tank
OK, you're missing a few points. Both fish poo & uneaten food look exactly the same in filter media or vacuumed out water/debris. How are you telling the difference? & this is based on 1 month's worth of (iffy) data?! Roselines are NOT the same as any goldfish in body mass, food consumption, temp, ...

Re: Let's talk the little-known built-in biomedia of a tank
I'm personally very skeptical it's overfeeding. I have ran into that problem before, but the only times I've ever really overfed them were when they were new and I didn't know just how much food to give, at which point they all got greatly bulging tummies. Now that I know how much to feed, the norma...

Re: Let's talk the little-known built-in biomedia of a tank
Which brings me to my next point. Because of all that biomedia, designating some in your filter that you never or hardly ever rinse is no longer a concern. This is my favorite thing about the built-in biomedia because I can easily rinse out everywhere in my filter that collects gunk 3 times a week,...

Re: Black Friday photos!
Yes, it is very hard to say for sure (hence it's a theory). Every tank being different with all its variables also has to be considered of course.
Perhaps if I can speak with the Ad Konings of Asian fish (whoever that is?), I can obtain some better data. All in the name of less hiding zebra loaches!

Re: Black Friday photos!
Thanks again for telling me about yours, mine hiding has been a fear for me before I considered what factors I had in my favor. I'm hoping the high flow+oxygen and cool temperature in my tank will bring them out like it did the kuhlis. Personally I suspect the reason they are reported to hide as muc...

Re: Black Friday photos!
Bumping this thread because the pet store got zebra loaches in for Black Friday this year! And I have been looking for them since July!
Got to put photos here when I get them.

Re: Let's talk the little-known built-in biomedia of a tank
Using the best aquarium filter media will ensure that your aquarium will always be clean. The filter media is responsible for catching most, if not all, of the solid waste suspended in the water. It can, therefore, keep the water clean so that your fish will always be healthy and happy in their art...
