I'll second the vote for House of Fins. Their livestock is usually absolutely top quality. Sal Silvestro there is a longtime member and ex-president of our local aquarium society. He raised some very big clowns.

Nancy, this is the same group. The infection stopped when I used a Maracyn/Maracyn II combination to treat it. I usually prefer to just use clean water and the fish's own healing powers, but something was clearly running rampant in the tank. Problem solved (unless this is related? I don't think it i...

Fat sidthimunki

Hi all, One of my sidthimunki's is developing a pretty disgorged looking belly. I thought he'd just had too many blackworms and would need to "pass" them, but I spent a weekend away when they got no food and he's looking as large as ever. The others in the tank look fine, and his behavior is normal....

The best part about Marten's approach is that you can just pick up those two little rocks to position the fish anywhere you want in the tank! ;)

Sounds like something decaying, or bacteria colonies. Clown loaches lay green eggs, if I recall. It would be very unusual to have them breed in a home aquarium.

Nancy, thanks for the ideas. I'm reluctant to start medicating without a diagnosis. I've used levamisole and metronidizole before when I had clown loaches that were losing weight. These sids aren't looking skinny, they've just started dropping. I got the rainbows from a friend, and have had them in ...

Losing sids-- ideas?

Hi all, In the past week and a half, I've lost four of my 8 sids. I'm a little baffled as to what's causing this. They are all juveniles of 1 to 1.5" in size. I bought 2 of them in January and 6 in early March. All were quarantined in a glass, bare bottom tank for 3 weeks before moving to their curr...

Stick with clean, healthy water and see if the kuhli's condition improves. You could medicate, but if it's just a superficial wound it should heal by itself.

Regarding the goldfish, try feeding it a couple shelled peas. That usually get's things 'moving' ;)

Probably obvious, but make sure you replace that heater-- once they've failed once, they'll do it again.

Interestingly, the current issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist has an article on the treatment of "chronic wasting disease" in livebearers using levamisole. In livebearers, the wild caught specimens seem to commonly arrive with nematode worm infections. In the article they dispute the claim that levamis...

House of Fins in Greenwich. They received 30 a week ago Tuesday, and were down to 9 left as of Saturday, so call before you go! It's a fantastic store regardless, so if you're in the area it's worth stopping by.

Every time I've seen them in the store they have been around 1". I picked up a pair last year (all I could get), and then six more a week ago. They were all around the same size at purchase.

Picked them up for $13 each. Not the cheapest fish, but I've seen them selling for more.
