Yes, it likely will need to be the same day.

We'll be going by car or truck (both are available).

When we've moved tanks before, I've borrowed my big friends, emptied half the water, and moved that way. I've never done that in cold weather, and it's always been with a 30 gallon, never bigger.

I had a real "ranking" of growth amongst my guys, and from watching their behaviour, it seemed directly related to dominance. In my case, the smallest clown was purchased much later, and he doesn't get the best hiding places, so he spends all his time wandering around the tank as well.

I'd definately space out the transfer over a larger time period: say a week. You might be okay with some species, but with Clown loaches being so sensitive, I wouldn't risk exposing them to the possibility of an ammonia spike. Let the tank settle after each re-location. I have two Aquaclear 110 ...

The Pictus chase everyone if they come into their corner of the tank, but haven't "attacked" anyone. The conflicts that I've seen are always won by the clowns. Best hiding places, first to the sinking food, etc.

I was actually considering getting a 20 gallon if we kept the blind clown by himself ...
