Lead and fish
Hey folks: If anyone has any knowledge about this, it would be a real help. We just moved into an older home, and we have one sink that has old lead lined pipes. Didn't think it would be a problem, it is an un-used laundry sink. It turns out, however, that it very close to where we have to put the f...

Playfulloach: I had something quite awful happen a few years ago when my air pump got disconnected while I was away. Three days with no air pump, one dead loach and one very close. If you don't have an active air pump with a good air stone to really diffuse the oxygen into the water, I would suggest...

I've got a 12" BGK in with Clown Loaches, Bala Sharks, and Giant Danios in a 90 gallon tank. I was really afraid for my loaches, but so far, they've been beating the BGK around (my clowns range 4' to 6"). The BGK has the largest hiding place, but has given up, and shares it with two clowns. He is su...

Moving Soon
Hey folks! I'll be moving across town soon, and I'm a little worried. I have a 90 gallon tank, with 4 clown loaches (ranging 3 to 6 inches), 5 bala sharks (about the same range), 5 giant Danios, and a Black Ghost Knife. I also have an almost empty 30 gallon tank, and a 10 gallon tank reserved for ho...

Hand Feeding a clown loach?
In recent months, if anyone recalls, my Alpha clown loach was blinded by a heat problem in my big clown tank. We removed him, treated him for the fungus that had arisen from all of his scratches (and the possible re-cycling of the tank), and all was well. He had a recent outbreak of Ich, and it was ...

I actually made a direct phone call to complain about my local petsmart putting goldfish in with the tropical fish (they say it is because they are trying to solve their snail problem). I got a call from the store manager who told me that petsmart vets told them it is okay. A company that cares? The...

I had a real "ranking" of growth amongst my guys, and from watching their behaviour, it seemed directly related to dominance. In my case, the smallest clown was purchased much later, and he doesn't get the best hiding places, so he spends all his time wandering around the tank as well. For growth, n...

I'd definately space out the transfer over a larger time period: say a week. You might be okay with some species, but with Clown loaches being so sensitive, I wouldn't risk exposing them to the possibility of an ammonia spike. Let the tank settle after each re-location. I have two Aquaclear 110 filt...

I did some slow growth early on with my clowns, and one of the problems was definately water quality. I did see some really fantastic growth once I got the clowns to start eating snails. I assume it was the increased protein. I also really tried to provide a greatly varied diet, with bloodworms, fro...

The Pictus chase everyone if they come into their corner of the tank, but haven't "attacked" anyone. The conflicts that I've seen are always won by the clowns. Best hiding places, first to the sinking food, etc. I was actually considering getting a 20 gallon if we kept the blind clown by himself (po...
