I use the Prime as it's not that expensive, handles all nasties and is safe for my plants (actually good for them according to the web site). I threw out all the other stuff a long time ago. Right now for the big bottle is $7.99 at Petsmart. They reduced the price from $9.99 and now the regular pric...

As the resident shill for SeaChem shill (just kidding), I exclusively use Prime on a daily basis for the first couple months and on a biweekly maintenance schedule after that. Rather than adding bacteria or all those supplements, I add it and let the system build the bioload naturally based on the n...

I stole these from the net: A) Packing fish - use double bags in case the inner one leaks - tie off the pointed ends with rubber bands or taped back to create round corners (small fish may get into corners & become crushed or suffocated) - bag width should be at least twice fish length - Bag should ...

Just as I said that I got home and in the mailbox there was a postcard from AA that said they are going to have the 50% off fish on June 28 to July 6th along with $1 per gal aquariums (up to 75) and $2(up to 210). Also, depending on when/if you do a franks order I might be interested in splitting th...

Well, I think that I will stock B. histrionica and Y. sidthimunki. Temp will be 80degrees F, pH 6.8, a couple hang-on-back filters with extra powerheads for current, pool-filter sand substrate, sandstone and bogwood caves, and java fern. How many of each species should I stock? What about other spe...

I have a 350 and I don't use the micron filter unless I have a cloudy tank. I use the media container in place of the micro filter and use one of the filter sleeves outside the media container. I don't use carbon, and fill it with those ceramic media nodules. You can use carbon or zeolite or any oth...

I've learned a trick about taking photos. It takes a little practice, but get one of those red laser pointers. You can get them at pet shops (they are sold for cats and dogs). Shine the point where you want to take the picture. Its easier if you have the camera pointed where you want and on a tripod...

Seweilla Flow experiment
As you all might or might not remember, I have the two batches of Seweilla in the 10 gal Q tank...I had hoped that they might get frisky as the batch in Ohio...I had been doing pretty aggressive water changes and every one seems ok for the last month or so...There's very good filtration/oxygenation ...
