New River Tank Questions
To cut a very long story short, I'm about to finally start setting up my river tank. The tank dimensions are 3'9.5" long by 12" wide by 12" high (approximately 28 USgal/23 Imperial gal/110 Litres). I have gotten three power heads, each one pumps 1400L per hour. If I use all three the water will be c...

I also was told by my lfs that some people add a dead fish to the new aquarium to help Unless I am mistaken, I'd say this is a very bad idea. If the dead fish you add to a new tank is carrying a bacterial or fungal infection or a parasite, you would be adding that straight into the new tank and cre...

Thats an awesome idea Shari2. Even if it means that most LFS wont stock them anymore because they "can't be bothered" to set up a river tank. One of my LFS has stopped getting them in a)because theyre too hard to catch, and b) because I told them about their requirements. However she has told me whe...

Re: Thanks for your reply
I was told that goldfish & loaches are alright in same tank, that's why i got them in the first place. :? Hey Marita. NEVER trust what the petshop/aquarium tell you about fish unless you've heard the same thing on here. The only loaches that I know of that would tolerate the same water conditions a...

It's interesting that they don't object to the garlic - and I wonder why it would be added? I'm not sure if the garlic would have a similar effect on loaches, but its fed to most other animals (dogs, poultry, rabbits etc) to help prevent internal and external parasites. And if you get a cold, best ...

G'day Camo. I've found that the majority of places in Australia add chlorine to the water. Basically, unless you live off tank water always assume there's chlorine and other nasty fish killing chemicals in the water and and a water conditioner. Hopefully you'll be able to get your tank sorted out so...
