Re: tank disaster of 2010

Wow, Glenna! Just wanted to say I think your tank is beautiful! Love the art work and how it's framed by the plants above the tank! I also like the fish sculpture on the bookshelf with the fish swimming out of the end :D

Picture of my betta's disease - http://i.imgur.com/S7yvy.png

I'm so sorry about Sid! Are you saying he looked and acted fine until you put him into the larger tank? And he was only in the larger tank for 3 days when you noticed something was wrong? In that short of time, attack from the danios (perhaps at night?) is the first thing that pops into my head, but...

Clown Loach Juvies Hiding & Have Dark Spots

Thanks, chefkeith! Yes, I've read some about the automatic drip systems. I thought perhaps that wouldn't work for me as my tank is in our living room (can't have extra gear sitting around), but I may look into it again. Glandular type problem sounds about right. I realized after my last post that I ...

Clown Loach Juvies Hiding & Have Dark Spots

Thanks for your replies, this is very helpful! This is what I suspected was the problem all along so it's great to have your input, chefkeith! What I was seeing just didn't fit any disease that I had heard of or could find. It always looked and felt like it had to be either the water chemistry in th...

Clown Loach Juvies Hiding & Have Dark Spots

I wanted to thank Ladysparky and chefkeith for their posts on this topic! I am experiencing the exact same thing in my 125g with sand substrate that's been going on for months now. I have seen this before in my previous tank for a short time, but it seemed to clear up on its own. Like others, I have...

need help finding new home for 9 year old clown loach in OH

Shoot, I'm in Massachusetts..a bit too far I think. Although I wouldn't want your pleco, I would've been more than happy to take your loach. I currently have a dedicated clown loach 120g. river tank setup (looking for a 125g. or 180g. now) with 9 happy clown loaches. Best of luck to you in finding a...

I fought a very, very long battle with velvet (6 months+ I believe, maybe longer). If you search you will see my posts. At first I wasn't sure what I was dealing with..I tried all kinds of meds, starting with ICH meds and went from there. I moved my 5 clown loaches into a 29g quarantine tank with a ...

I use this: http://outdoor-living.hardwarestore.com/57-240-chemicals/quikrete-pool-filter-sand-292169.aspx Nice, even grains..slightly course..natural color..real clean..stays out of the water column. My loaches seem happy with it. I really like the look of something finer but after pretty much dest...

Still battling velvet! (really LONG, sorry!)

Hello Everyone, I am posting again for advice as I still have velvet in my tank. My alpha clown loach's head is covered and I'm just about out of ideas. This started when I converted to a planted tank, you may remember. Nothing but disappointment since then :( I initially started treating sometime d...

Re:Ich or Velvet? Need help!

Hi everyone, I've been treating my tank for what I believe to be velvet as it covers my largest clown's head as a light dusting of grayish, very small spots. He seems to be eating fine for now but is a bit grayed out. Other clowns are seen to be flashing as well. I've been treating for 5 days so far...

Hi Wendie, Thanks for the reply! These are definitely spots, but are very small, only on its head for the moment, nothing on fins or tail. I remember in the past when I'd seen ich it was on the body or fins/tail as bigger, random spots. This is more a flushing of very small dots covering its head. C...

Velvet or Ich?

Hello Everyone, I have a case of something in my newly planted 55g., ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrates 15-20, PH 6.7, Coralife 9w UV sterilizer. The spots I'm seeing on my largest clown loach (5 total) look much smaller than what I remember seeing years ago with ich. This appears more like a covering, ...

Re: Prego YO-YO???

Hi, I have 3 yo-yos and have one that looks similar to the fish you described. This particular yo-yo was always very fat, while the other two were not, and very light in color as you described. It would eagerly follow the other two yo-yos around the tank all day long. Then suddenly, about 3 months a...

Re: Best plants for tank with clown/yoyo loaches?

Hi Everyone, I can't believe some of you are successfully keeping sag and microsword! Mine are mowing it down and cutting off the microsword at the bottom of the leaves. Can anyone recommend a nice foreground plant for a newly planted tank with 2.5 wpg, eco complete substrate, no CO2 (only Seachem F...

Tahitian black moon sand grain size discrepancy?

Hello All, I've been in the process of switching to an Eco-Complete/Tahitian black moon sand substrate from an all Home Depot playsand substrate. I been reading many of you saying how small the grains of Tahitian moon sand were, etc. The cleaning process has been quite involved, but I expected that ...
