I have a blind weather loach and she is doing amazing. She learned to manouver all around the tank and even sleeps in the same spot every night. She is thriving! Please don't euthanize him. Edit: I was overfeeding the tank to made sure she got her share but it sucked for water quality and the other ...

I've never dealt with HITH but did have to find metronidazole for bloat. Just wanted to input if you decide it is HITH and need to treat with Metronidazole. I found its pure form in smaller quantities at mops.ca as I'm in Canada. You can get pure metro from Dr. Foster and Smith in the States if you ...

OY - thats bad!!!! :? I guess I could actually register and call myself LovesLoaches and post accurate info when people request it at least. I am glad that LOL exists and has the knowledge articles developed for referencing. Posts like Martin's with the science and the analogy make it harder to argu...

Thanks Martin : ) I like your analogy and will use that in the future.

Like I said I can't do anything about the other forums but I can do my best to educate those in our local society and the goldfish forum members.

Good information to know. Thanks for replying.

Whenever I hear of people interested in loaches I always provide the LOL link so they can learn more. I don't think GAB will be recommending hill streams with goldfish any time soon. Thanks again.

I never expected it would be fine to have the two together.

On GAB our goldfish recommendations are 100gph turnover on the filter and 75-78 degrees for fancies. Aeration of course with bubble wands but no power heads.

I will be reading to see what the consensus is.

Hillstreams and goldfish

I love this forum and have learned a lot and read every post I can. I am concerned about a few websites recommending hill streams as compatible tank mates with goldfish. These websites get a LOT of traffic which means a whole lot of hillstreams in very bad environments. Someone just posted on GAB. W...

I'm sorry :( I didn't mean to make you feel bad. I'm just so mad at the local fish stores not the people who buy the fish. I'm a huge goldfish lover (and loach) lover and I have a hard time thinking of the fish going through what the stores know they will go through and they don't say anything! I wi...

Ouch - a new tank and an overstocked one :( Your water is toxic by end of day for sure. Your loach jumped to get to escape the water. Goldfish need 10 gallons minimum for a fancy variety and more for single tails. If you do your research you will learn a lot. Fish store people are in the business to...

You should get a test kit. I use the aquarium pharmaceuticals mini master test kit. The liquid kits are more accurate and cheaper in the long run than strips. The two bottle ammonia test kit is also a good thing. Your fish - especially your dojo loach is going to go through a very hard time with cyc...

A few questions to start with:

How did you acclimatize them from the water at the store to the water in your tank?

How long has your tank been set up?

Do you have test kits? Ammonia and nitrite could easily kill a weather loach.
Your local fish store could test your water for free.

I quarantined two dojos in a 20 and they seemed to do fine. I kept the light dim for the first couple days. They loved their coconut halves and javamoss. It didn't take long before they were comfy. It was just the two of them.

Sally how is he doing??? Do you have a second set of hands? I had a miserable experience trying to euthanize a dojo with clove oil. I mixed it well but 15 minutes of struggling and he finally passed. It was horrible to watch. I wonder if I did something wrong or if it was not effective on dojos for ...
