I've never seen a tubifex worm. Someone on another forum somehow got leaches into her tank - she thinks it was with live plants.

Do you have live plants?

I have no experience with loaches but I've been following your posts.

How does columnaris show up in loaches. Maybe the activity is a sign of irritation?

I hope your guys are all okay.

I would recommend nitrite and nitrate tests. (I bought the aquarium pharmaceuticals master test kit - it was cheaper and came with gh and kh tests also).

Keep in mind if you remove the sand you might see a mini cycle.

Sorry for helping with the thread redirection. The owners cat at the wildlife centre where I volunteer is exactly like that. He actually has a thyroid problem and is now given a pill every day. He was eating great but was extremely thin.

I wonder if the antibacterial medication crashed the cycle. I would check ammonia and nitrite levels as a precaution.

Edited post: Some people on another forum (GAB) take their fish to an aquatic vet. Here is the thread on their diagnosis of fish TB. There is some talk to UV sterilizers killing freefloating bacteria and how to disinfect - using alchohol instead of bleach. How did they diagnose fish TB with a micros...

I would retest. I'm not sure. I have a kh of 14 and a gh of 10. I am on well water. I have switched to softened water on my 90G goldfish tank which brings GH down to 0. THey like a mid level GH... I bought a product to add back GH... Its cichlid buffer. Here's a link... http://www.aquariumsdelivered...

Editing my post as Emma replied :) I don't know how clowns react to large water changes. I would do at least 50% a day (dechlorinated/temp/ph matched) I know that some fish have excess slime coat when they are very stressed (from unhappy water) and sick. I wonder if clowns do also? I hate to bring u...

Can't help you save your loach. Your best bet is to get yourself some test kits. Depending on where you live they can be very cheap. At a minimum I would recommend ph and ammonia with nitrate and nitrite being high on the list. I buy the aquarium pharmaceuticals master freshwater test kit. If your w...

loach safe medication

On a few other forums, people often have many types of loaches in community tanks with a variety of fish. Most forums consider them "scaleless fish" and there is confusion on what to treat the tank with. Ideally you would take ou the sick fish into QT - but what if it is something you need to treat ...

Personally I wouldn't risk it. On another forum a member lost one of his beloved fish immediately after using an algae killer. None of us on that forum will ever use an algae killer now. He was a very experienced fish keeper and followed directions to a tee. It was really sad :(
