flying w/fish

New app that explains TSA rules in the states. We can put them in our carry-ons again. From CNN: "Goldfish will have to be visually inspected by an agent, according to the app, which elaborates on this point with a "Special Instructions!" alert: "Live fish must be transported in a clear, plastic, sp...

Black worms

Visited the LFS today and picked up some small blackworms. I've noticed others feed their loaches earthworms and bait worms. I hope giving them blackworms are ok. I don't want to keep worms too long in the fridge so how much and how often do you recommend worms in their diet?

My concern would be cleaning the glass. Sometimes it takes a scraper to get tough green spot algae off the glass and its more difficult to scrape the bowed surface than a strait surface.

Often pop eye will often resolve itself with clean water. Water changes and getting the tank cycled are your first course of action which you seem to be taking. I hope you are also using a good dechlorinator. Adding a bit of aquarium salt (follow directions) should also help.

pictures of my Africans

My pheno is getting nicely speckled. It took years for those speckles. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa72/GRUAQT2/phenofriends.jpg The Christmas fulu shows color with the light of the camera flash but not so much without. His color was fantastic when I had him with females. I sold the females a...

a few pictures

Haven't posted pictures in a while so I thought I'd snap a few. The severums have grown pretty large and the clowns seem inspired to catch up. The serpae tetras spawned in the tank and only one baby survived. There were two but I think the blue acara got one of them. I noticed he was stalking the we...

I brought home two severums several months ago and the larger one doesn't seem to like the smaller one in his area. I don't know their sexes but I haven't seen any mating behavior. I've heard they will kill other fish when protecting their fry. I hope I don't have a pair. Here is a picture I took a ...

There is a common problem amongst fish keepers. There are so may fish to choose from that are interesting that soon you find you have multiple tanks to be able to keep them. I started with a small tropical tank and within two years, I had 13 tanks. I suggest, you keep goldfish with goldfish and buy ...

I saw the black (?) tube near his gills, but I didn't understand how all that worked. You can't really see the tube going in his mouth because its covered by the hand of the vet student. The water passes out over his gills to oxygenate him. The black lead you refer to is actually one of the probes ...

How did they arate him during surgery? I didn't even know people did fish surgery. He has his swim bladder removed? How will that affect him long term? You can't see it very well in the video clip but there is a tube in his mouth. No danger of water getting in his lungs. It flows out his gills. The...
