Hi, I keep weather loaches in an outdoor pond of ~200gal (maybe a bit less), and I usually keep it filled up to the top with some river rock holding down the lip of the liner. In ~ three years, I've only had one jump out. He was about 3 feet from the pond when I found him and still alive! I grabbed ...

I've read that loaches will poke holes and kill these plants off just for the fun of it.
Yo-yos (especially small rapidly growing ones) may well tear up your sword plant. At least that's been my experience.

Is it possible (probable) that either the Yoyo or the shark are the culprits ?
Yup. If you have more yo-tos they might pay more attention to each other...

No. They'll be fine. Give them something to burrow into to overwinter (sand substrate, soil for potted plants etc).

WOW! that looks so cool! I've only seen weather loaches from the sides (in aquariums) they are so cool from above. The thing is, my pond is lower then ground level, so I'm expecting it gets colder in winter then your pond. I definetly be checking the temp. next winter because they look so cool in t...

Congrats! Very cool. Where in TN are you (I'm in Knoxville)? If it gets to the point where you want to sell some, let me know.

Hi, I keep weather loaches in my small pond. They've been there about three years now and are pretty big (8-9 inches). Some old pictures from a previous thread: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=8353&highlight= Its way more overgrown now :P The pond gets up to 2" of ice on the surface during...

Re: Golden Dojo(weather)loaches

80- 100ppm nitrates This is really high! I would double the size/frequency of your water changes until this gets at least under 40ppm (or better yet <20ppm). I don't know if that is what is causing the problem, but it is likely that the amount of other dissolved pollutants is also too high. batch

Hi, I've had success with using barley to keep the water clear in my pond, but the way that I've found works the best is to starve the algae. Fast growing plants are great for this. Of course Koi eat most anything so you either have to put them in an area where the Koi cant get them or use something...

This is the TDS meter I use (and where I got it).

Are you matching the temperature of the tank water and the new water? If they are really different this may have an effect...

Hope it helps.

They've arrived and so far so good. (I got a group of 6). They have been eating live blackworms and daphnia... Haven't tried anything else yet.
I'll take some pics of these guys and post them at some point.

I like the video. I'm guessing that they'll do fine with the (thawed) frozen food in the current, plus b-weekly or more live food. They'll also have plenty of shrimplets to snack on.

BTW my stiphon feeds almost exactly like that.
