Very pretty fish. Reminds me of juiced up, colour fed discus. Could this be a possibility? I've seen 5" clowns in a store that were obvously fed hormone foods, and they their normally orange base colour had turned rosy, and the fins and tails were glowing red. Not sure of the long term implications,...

I'm interested too, I just got a few that look just like the photo above.
My far-from-expert opinion is they're P. Khuli, but I'd love to believe they're Myersi, which means they'll get noticeably bigger :D
Anyone else care to chime in?

well, I went ahead with the methylene blue treatment. After a week of seeing my loaches getting ever more miserable by the day, I decided it was time to take the plants out and dose with methblue at the normal rate. It was touch and go for a few days, but I'm happy to report that they've turned the ...

MethBlue for ich

I some how managed to introduce ich into my planted loach tank last week, from a new plant me thinks. Anyway, I tried heat treatment at 31.5 celcius, for the past 6 days, and I've had mixed results. Because it's a planted tank, I left the lights on. After a few days, the spots have cleared up on the...

Black Khuli eggs

Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself. I had just turned on the light and started feeding a little pellet food, when my only khuli swims past and shed about 20 eggs. It didn't appear that gravid, and it wasn't being chased or anything. The eggs were clear with a white/opaque yolk, ...

Fighting Sids

Just thought I'd post a few quick pics of a couple of sparring sids. They occasionally do this after a huge water change. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/IMGP1182b.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/IMGP1179b.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/IMG...

I hope didn't put anyone off getting these wonderful fish, after all, my ramblings are just whimsicle theories. I'm in Australia, probably the worst place to get rare and interesting fish, due to the strict bio-security measures we have. Quite a few of the local stores around my place have sids in t...

Shortage of Sids

Another slow day, so I'll post something that's been on my mind. Can anyone shed some light on why there is such a shortage of sids? I'm a little dumbfounded. The story goes that only a few licensed suppliers in Thailand can produce and export these fish. Well fine. They, at great risk and expense, ...

Wow MadDuff, your fish certainly look superb, and great photos too. I will have to disagree with the sexing though. Here's a pic of what I think is a female fish. Even after a 2 day fast, it is more or less the same shape. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/IMGP1017b.jpg And this is wh...

Here are pics of what I mean.

Image

Notice the pattern of the main fish in the photo, seems to 'bleed' downwards. While the fish to the right, is only just starting its pattern change.

Anyone else noticed this?

Sid's pattern change

Hello, Has anyone noticed a change in the patterning of their chain loaches? I've noticed on my fish, that the dark markings were confined entirely to the upper portion of the fish. But since they've grown, to nearer the max. size (5cm?), this patterning seems to have spread down to the lower half o...

My Sids 3 Month Update

Hello everyone, Just thought I'd post an update on how my group of Sids are doing. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/2007_0807testsize0001.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x249/500fatty/IMGP0656b.jpg The first blurry photo is of two (males?) side swipping each other, very simila...

I bought the first 10 on impulse, and went back for more the next day :P To my suprise, there were still heaps lef...

sids not eating

Hello everyone, I have managed to get hold of 20 chain loaches btw 3.5cm to 5cm. They seem rather lively and school tightly. They're kept with a breeding pair of angles in a 2ft tank, with gravel and potted crypts. I use a small power filter and change 40% of the water once a week. My concern is tha...
