River tank current help

I need help setting up the current flow in my 50 gallon long river tank. I have been running 2 aquaclear 70's mounted on an intake manifold with intake pipes covered with very open cell sponge. The main problem is that the intakes clog up fast greatly reducing flow. I now have a new Aquaclear 110 in...

Nice tank. Could you elaborate on your circular flow? I have a 50g river tank with 2 802's with intake manifold. Is circular flow better than unidirectional? My intake manifold gets clogged up quickly reducing my flow.

I should mention that I did indeed read Jim's article on "patchy disease". It is really hard to tell but I don't think it is patchy disease. It looks more like a fungal or bacterial disease. I'll try to get some decent pics.

Hillstream disease help

Today I noticed a white patchy spot on one of my Beaufortia kweichowensis. I know some of you like Jim has experienced weird patchy diseases on hillies and was hoping I could get some help identifying and treating. I've inspected it really close even in dark with flash light but can't tell what it i...

Yes it is Cyanbacteria, however I'm going to nuke the tank rather than use antibiotics, and hope for better luck next time.

 I hope it wasn't a fool's day joke because I took it seriously and there was no mention in that thread of it being a fool's day joke. It made sense to me because it would supply ammonia. Martin could you confirm this please?

I did indeed add some of Martin's secret ingredient. I also added some Nutrafin Plant gro. There is nothing but rocks in the tank so I do know if the tank will cycle except for ammonia from the secret ingredient. I thought algae liked good water to thrive as opposed to poor water quality so I do reg...

All I can grow is blue green algae

I've been trying to grow algae rocks for my Hillies in a 3 gal tank with air stone and filter still running, sitting in window. All I can get to grow is blue green algae which I don't want to expose my 50gal river tank to. I seeded the algae growing tank with some rocks with brown algae on them. I'm...

I saw how much they like it in your pics so I'll be patient with their eating habits. They are really focused on any algae in the tank, and with this tank only set up 1.5 months, they don't give it a chance to really start growing yet, but it will catch up. I have a small aquarium setup in window gr...

Why won't they eat it?

I made a batch of Martin's recipe and my Hillstreams won't touch it. The only ingredient I couldn't find was snail flesh. I substituted it with fresh cod fillet. It held together nicely. I followed recipe exact so I'm not sure where I went wrong. I would have thought they would go nuts over it. Any ...

thx Jim. Then I have 4 P. Fangi and 2 Beaufortia kweichowensis. One of my Beaufortia's is smaller and has a rather brownish red color but the same spotting. Does this mean anything? Also despite reading the article on sexing I have yet to determine sexes of my P. Fangi or Beaufortia's yet.

I took some pics with a better camera. You should not use medications on any fish until you properly identify the problem. Correct medications may follow if needed. Not only is it costly, but incorrect medications can cause death to an already sick fish. Keep sick fish in quarantine. I'm sure someone will be along to help you soon.

Without a picture it is hard to do more than speculate, but it sounds like Flex to me. The flex maybe just a secondary infection from poor water quality. Here is a good article on it..... http://www.flippersandfins.net/flexibacter.htm Your symptoms match and it has spread to other fish in your tank....

Thx for the link Martin. I've read a majority of your articles and find them very helpful and well layed out. Is there any specific techniques for breeding HS such as water temp dips to simulate rainfall, current raising or lowering, daylight hours and such things? Fortunately I keep all my tank wat...
