River tank current help
I need help setting up the current flow in my 50 gallon long river tank. I have been running 2 aquaclear 70's mounted on an intake manifold with intake pipes covered with very open cell sponge. The main problem is that the intakes clog up fast greatly reducing flow. I now have a new Aquaclear 110 in...

Hillstream disease help
Today I noticed a white patchy spot on one of my Beaufortia kweichowensis. I know some of you like Jim has experienced weird patchy diseases on hillies and was hoping I could get some help identifying and treating. I've inspected it really close even in dark with flash light but can't tell what it i...

I did indeed add some of Martin's secret ingredient. I also added some Nutrafin Plant gro. There is nothing but rocks in the tank so I do know if the tank will cycle except for ammonia from the secret ingredient. I thought algae liked good water to thrive as opposed to poor water quality so I do reg...

All I can grow is blue green algae
I've been trying to grow algae rocks for my Hillies in a 3 gal tank with air stone and filter still running, sitting in window. All I can get to grow is blue green algae which I don't want to expose my 50gal river tank to. I seeded the algae growing tank with some rocks with brown algae on them. I'm...

I saw how much they like it in your pics so I'll be patient with their eating habits. They are really focused on any algae in the tank, and with this tank only set up 1.5 months, they don't give it a chance to really start growing yet, but it will catch up. I have a small aquarium setup in window gr...

Why won't they eat it?
I made a batch of Martin's recipe and my Hillstreams won't touch it. The only ingredient I couldn't find was snail flesh. I substituted it with fresh cod fillet. It held together nicely. I followed recipe exact so I'm not sure where I went wrong. I would have thought they would go nuts over it. Any ...

I took some pics with a better camera. Hopefully these are good enough to make positive identifications. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/keeb1/DSC00661.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/keeb1/DSC00667.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/keeb1/DSC00669.jpg http://i134.photob...

Without a picture it is hard to do more than speculate, but it sounds like Flex to me. The flex maybe just a secondary infection from poor water quality. Here is a good article on it..... http://www.flippersandfins.net/flexibacter.htm Your symptoms match and it has spread to other fish in your tank....

Thx for the link Martin. I've read a majority of your articles and find them very helpful and well layed out. Is there any specific techniques for breeding HS such as water temp dips to simulate rainfall, current raising or lowering, daylight hours and such things? Fortunately I keep all my tank wat...
