New Loaches

Just excited to share my new loach purchase with the loach people. Its not the most exciting loach out there but one of my favorites- Pangio oblonga. I picked up 6 at the Greenwater swap on Sunday. I have had these in the past, I had a group that lasted probably 8 or 9 years but its been a few years...

Re: Kuhli loaches and sterbai in planted tank?

As far as compatibility you should be fine. In my experience once kuhliis get settled in they are active whenever food comes out and occasionally at other times as the mood suits them. I would be at least a bit concerned about the bioload in the tank, it seems to me to be heavily stocked. You didn't...

Re: Pangio spp

I agree cuneovirgata and oblonga.

@atmichaels- I'm curious who the seller was, I would love to get some cuneovirgata, they are hard to find.

Re: Hillstream Loaches dying

As I do agree with you that I was over stocking before now I am not. These are not full grown yet. Before 16 of them were young about 6 months old and less than 3/4 off an inch. Now I have 3 adults and 7 young about an inch. Could weekly water changes and cleaning the substrate too much be a proble...

Re: Hillstream Loaches dying

High temp is definitely a factor but 22 fish in a 20 gallon tank is way too many. Over stocking is probably your biggest problem. The hillstream tank I have set up is a 40 breeder and I have 7 fish in it. I can probably add a few to mine but I wouldn't put more that 15 of 20 in a tank twice the size...

Re: Dojo loaches

What temperature is the tank at? Dojos are a cool water species so an unheated tank is important. Also, just to be clear the loaches (and no animal) will truly clean the substrate. They will eat any food missed by the other fish but you should ensure any bottom feeders actually get fed as well. BTW,...

Re: Borneo Hillstream Loach

So, I am no expert on hillstreams but to help those who will come along later and give you some response I'll get things started. First some more information from you would be helpful. Which species (or at least genus) are your hillstreams? If they are truly from Borneo it is likely they are Gastrom...

Re: Gastromyzon ctenocephalus- possible breeding behavior

I was refering to non Gastro hillstreams regarding breeding reports. Mostly using the leeward side of a pebble. I did note the T position several times in the dance and when the third individual joined, assuming what I am calling the male role, he and the original "male" both had the color change bu...

Re: Gastromyzon ctenocephalus- possible breeding behavior

They are in a 40 breeder, room temperature, with a power head with attached sponge filter for filtration. Water out of my tap is about pH 7.6. Fine black sand substrate with some rocks and pebbles of various sizes. Other than what they eat off the rocks I have been feeding them repashy foods. They r...

Gastromyzon ctenocephalus- possible breeding behavior

Last week I noticed three of my G. ctenocephalus exhibiting what I can only explain as courtship or mating behavior. I am really hoping for mating and I get some fry to survive. It started with just two individuals, the one I am presuming is the male was rearing, displaying, circling, and nudging th...

https://www.facebook.com/#!/sean.stake/posts/1276611089030854 Here are a few pictures of the unknown Gastromyzon species, haven't had type to type them out yet, suggestions welcome. They were in a shipment of G. ctenocephalus so best guess on location would be near G. ctenocephalus collecting areas.

Re: Getting new loaches today!

They are the same ones. I may not have bid on the first ones had I known the surprise would be clown loaches but now that I have 2 I would like to get a bigger group. I will have to play some fish Tetris but I do have big enough tanks for the clowns for many years before needing to upgrade. A 75 sho...

Re: Getting new loaches today!

They all came in healthy, the Gastros were a little stressed but are settling in nicely. The surprise loaches wer 2 really nice 2 inch clown loaches. I can't complain about free clown loaches but I will have to think about where to put them when they are done with quarantine. I didn't have much time...
