thank you for the replies. unfortunately the bala did not make it through the night, but all other fish in the tank have been fine. still not sure what went wrong.

Unfortunately, the only heater I could find that wasn't too big for that tank, was one of the ones you can't set the temperature on. It supposedly stays at 78 degrees, but every time I check the thermometer it reads about 80 degrees. I would have liked to raise the temperature otherwise, since I've ...
