Hey mkoff. I'd say kubotai are a great choice- a 55g is big enough for a reasonable sized group of them and they're very entertaining fish. I've got some myself, and they're one of my favorites. You could keep other Botia species such as B. histronica, B. striata, B rostrata. These species need an a...

Amazon says estimated delivery is 30 April - 1 May for my copy of the book. I got the Interpret Manual of Fish Health for christmas, which I'm very happy with. It's got some good introductory chapters on physiology and water chemistry as well as a lot of stuff on diseases and parasites.

I use B&Q play sand, and haven't had any problems with it, although it did take a huge ammount of rinsing.
I've got a mix of play sand and several different sizes of gravel in a few tanks now, and I really like the look- much more natural than one plain colour.

Great pictures. When my kubs were in quarantine, one of them used to spend a fair bit of time wedged behind a little internal filter. It was a tiny space, and not at all hidden, but he he used to keep the other two well away from it.

Not been around much lately, but I've been voting. There's a few nice fish over there, but none anywhere near as impressive as Albert.

I was forced to add a gravel patch in one bit of my river tank where I couldn't stop the current digging out sand. Not a bad thing for me because it gives my cheni somewhere to spawn.

Looking good. I don't think you need to worry about it being strong enough- the compressive strength of wood is enormous, and you've done a very solid job on the bracing. You could probably park two buses on it if you need to :) I'm looking forward to more pictures.

The leak seems to have stopped by itself, stranegly enough. Shari, I don't have a hob, but thanks for the advice. Since the leak seems to have stopped, maybe it was just water wicking over the top somehow. It's nearly dry under the trim now, and the water level hasn't gone down for the last few days...
