Lots of great looking fish. I'm determined to make it down there at some point, but right now I can't really even afford the train fare. On the question of hybrids, I don't really have a problem with healthy, good condition hybrids. The fish doesn't know it's a hybrid, it's not suffering any more th...

If you want to grow terrestrial plants, I'd suggest looking at suspending pots with the bottom inch or two under water, filled with an inert growing media like perlite or clay pebbles. This is basically a hydroponic type setup, with the plants growing long roots into the water. Searching 'aquaponics...

Thanks for that Emma. At the time I bought it I wasn't aware that it's not generally available over here. When I found out I did wonder if I should have been able to get it, but I hadn't been able to find anything definitive. Of course I don't advise doing anything illegal, and I won't be buying any...

A note on maracyn- I've sucessfully had maracyn 1 and 2 delivered over here from a US ebay shop. I don't believe the active ingredients are available over here without a prescription, so maybe I shouldn't have been able to get hold of it like this, but the fact is I did, and I haven't been raided by...

So you see your hillies hanging out at 18" of water? Do they work the substrate at that depth? Yea, my boys spend most of their time on the bottom. They're actively browsing across the sand or poking about under cobbles a lot of the time. I can see how water depth may be a factor, but I'm sure it's...

My cheni tank is a Juwel vision 180. It's a bowfront, 36" long, 12" to 16" in width and about 18" of actual water depth. There's air injection out of the powerheads, a bubble wall and an internal power filter with the output about 1/2" above the surface, so there should be plenty of oxygen. My cheni...
