Re: Forum Upgrades

In the thread 'Icons Decoded' it is listed http://forums.loaches.com/styles/we_clearblue/imageset/icon_topic_newest.gif - Go to last unread post in the thread but it doesn't seem to appear in the list of threads. Yeah, it's something about this visual template that makes that icon not show up. Let ...

Icons Decoded

This is a summary of the topic icons and what they mean. Two general points - Red icons are unread items, blue/grey are read - A star on any thread means you have posted in it For example: http://forums.loaches.com/styles/we_clearblue/imageset/forum_read.gif - Read topic (No one has posted to this t...

Re: Forum Upgrades

There is one thing I'm missing, maybe I'm just to blind to find it: the button to get to the first unread post of a thread. Hi Ingo, Did the old forum have that option? (Was it a little icon that used to appear next to the list of threads on the forum main page, particularly when a topic spanned mu...

Forum Upgrades

You may have noticed that the Forums look a little different today… This weekend I upgraded the forum software to the latest release, mostly to take advantage of some new anti-spam features that should make life easier for your hardworking moderators. Alas, the silver-and-blue visual style we have g...

A suggestion i put on a while back was about having a "my loaches" bit like what planet catfish did. What did everyone think of that? David Hi David, I see what you mean about Planet Catfish, but I'm not thrilled about how it would look on our species pages to have a big list of names at the bottom...

Martin: I have an ulterior motive here as I am attempting to get up to speed on web servers, dynamic sites and customizing dynamic sites. What was the old software and what is the new software? TR Hi Jones57742, The old software was *me*. :-) (Well, I used Macromedia Dreamweaver to build the pages ...

this is very possible 8) i somewhat like the idea. while on the subject of the webpage, perhaps my only 'button pusher' if you will, is the fact that the most recent item in the news box is from december '06. then again where i'm from no news is good news :o Good point, I added a news entry about t...

PS - I also like the idea of little thumb nail pictures. Also on http://www.loaches.com/species-index there are thumb nail pictures of quite common loaches - is there any way to link these to the specific species profile? As then if a user sees the loach they want to ID on the 1st page then they ca...

phpbb3 will speed things up to and makes the database alot smaller in size! this forum isn't slow IMO, but would be alot faster when on the new server i think. Forum speed is primarily limited by the separate database server, rather than the host server running the PHP scripts. Whenever I get a lot...

Will we need to avoid logging in for a period of time, so as not to lose any posts we make? Good question. It might be best just to compose your posts in notepad or word and paste them into the message box when you're finished. Then, if the site goes down for 10 minutes, you won't have lost anythin...

Forums moving servers in 2 days...

The forums and forum archives will be moving servers in 2 days or less. (An exact time is not set) The old server had too many other customers on it, or maybe the Loach Forum is just too popular and crowding them out. :D They say the move will only take 10 minutes, but let's plan on a little bit lon...
