Some tank design and stocking questions

Here's my current setup (20 gallon long): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/aquachromis/Fish/IMAG0109.jpg I originally had it set up with a typical river tank manifold but I couldn't stand the loud hum of the powerhead. So, I removed the powerhead and connected the piping to an AC110 filter. I ...

River tank lighting suggestions

Hi all: I'm setting up a new river tank for some hillstream loaches and garra flavatra. It's a 20gallon long tank, so 30". I'm looking for suggestions on lighting. I've found a few fixtures online that look good, or I thought I could use an AH supply kit and DIY. I guess I'm most concerned with the ...

Yes. I use Seachem Prime for each water change. Shari mentioned color fading...Out of the 8 kubotai there are 2 or 3 that don't have deep color. Most of them have 'black' markings but there are a few that look faded. I'm going to do a water change tonight then observe them. I'm not sure if the ones ...

Well I checked my water last night. Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates ~20ppm Nitrates are normally lower but I was out of town this past weekend and missed my normal water change. I'll continue to keep an eye on them. They'll be in the QT at least 2 more weeks until their permanent home is up and cycled.

Problem with flashers

I need some advice. I purchased a group of 8 B. kubotai about 3 weeks ago. They've gone through a round of levimasole treatments and seems to be doing well except for a few that seems to be flashing for some reason. They all eat and are active. And there are no visible signs of disease other than th...

I'll try my best to get some photos this week or this coming weekend. I've got the wood on the way from http://www.manzanita.com/ and I plan to find some rocks early next week. So, hopefully by the end of next week the tank will be set up and cycling. I was supposed to be out of town this weekend bu...

Mike, thanks for all the info. Unfortunately I found out Sunday that I have family coming in that I only see once a year at most, so I've had to cancel the NY trip. I've bookmarked this thread though and may resurrect it in a few months when I have a chance to schedule the trip again.

A quick update. I keep meaning to post some photos but I also keep forgetting to buy batteries for the camera. Anyway, following Mike's advice I purchased the kubs and kuhlis last week. So far they all seem to be doing very well and all are eating and active. I had to lower the water level on the QT...

I'm not actually planning on buying anything. Just looking around for fun. I'll be staying in Queens and spending most of my time in Manhattan. Although, if any of these stores have a nice plant selection, I'm sure I could bring some plants back with me.

thanks for all the suggestions :)

Loaches in NY

I'm going be traveling to NY next week and I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good fish shops. I'm thinking in a city that big there must be some shops that would have a better selection that what I might find here in the midwest...yes? no? I'll just be browsing but it would be nice to see...

Haven't really thought about the dithers too much. Maybe some type of rasbora? I saw some last night labeled Brilliant Rasboras, and another labeled Green Eye Rasboras. Does anyone have experience with either of these? What about a Danio? I see Frank has several species available. I also like the lo...

Thanks Mike! Good to know. I really like the kubotai and the kuhlis so I think I may finally have my combination. So now the question is, how many of each should I plan on stocking? I suppose there's more than one way to go with this? Let's assume I also have a small school of dither fish too. Thanks

Hopefully this will help narrow things down. I went by a couple of the fish stores I frequent after work yesterday to see what loaches they had available. Here's what I found: Botia striata Botia kubotai Botia almorhae Chromobotia macracanthus Yasuhikotakia morleti And two tanks of Pangio ...striped...
