Nancy, I got the "S" grade in black. It looks very black while rinsing, but in the aquarium looks more dark gray. Could be that my stand, etc is black, so colorquartz looks more grayish. I really like the look & the clowns show up even more!

After many hours of rinsing, the Colorquartz is in the aquarium & the clowns seem to love it. They are already digging caves. I found a local pool company that actually contacted their distributor to order it for me, it was $32.50 for 50 lbs. I live in Western North Carolina, but I think it came fro...

Again, thanks for all the feedback. I did locate the 3m Colorquartz, so I hope my clowns will be happy. I have rearranged my aquarium lately & notice the the clowns are so brilliant in their coloring the last few days. What causes this color change, the orange seems to glow?

Thanks Emma, that brand doesn't appear to be in the US. I sure admire all of your pics, just beautiful! Could you advise me as if black silica is a coated sand or if I should be looking for a black coated silica sand? Surely, there must be a product in the US that is similiar. The search continues.

Thanks for all the feedback! Apparently, I still have lots to learn. Does anyone know the brand name of the black sand that is sold in Emma's shop or what it would be called in the US? The LFS gives different advice every time I ask. I saw the TMS in a 120gal set-up, the owner had cories etc & had t...

Thanks for the replys. I had searched online & thought even on this forum there was a discussion about sand for loaches stating that silica etc was safe. I love my clowns & wanted to give them a softer substrate, but also wanted the true black color. Now, I'm not sure what to do?

This is absolutely a fantastic forum, such great info! Anyway, just need to know whether or not TMS is good for clown loaches as I plan to change out my 55 gal from gravel to TMS. Experts, please give your opinion, thanks. Di

Many thanks to all of YOU!! This is such an amazing source of info....my 55 gal has a Whisper 330, an Emperor 280 & a Maxijet 1200. SO unless I hear otherwise, I will add a Rena XP2. By the way- the loaches seem to love the addition of the maxijet, your advice on that was great! DI

Does having extra filtration allow one to have more fish in the tank?
Can you ever have TOO much filtration? My tank is 55 gal. DI
