Re: Leptobotia taeniops (Honeycomb Loach) info....

Maximum size for L. taeniops is 15cm (6") TL. I will try and get round to updating the species profile soon.

Best wishes,
Emma

Re: I am new to this forum

Hi Jaguar, I'm sorry that I didn't spot this thread earlier. You asked about the tank that Marge lived in. It is 7ft long x 2ft 3" wide x 2ft 4" high. In case you are wondering about the strange dimensions, this tank was made to fit an alcove in the living room and was the largest that would fit int...

Re: Triplophysa siluroides

Thanks all! :D Thomas - we'll let them settle in for a bit first, then see if we can get better pictures and maybe a video at feeding time. Matt - these are wild caught fish, individually hand caught by net. Here's a couple more pics. Apologies for the reflection in the first one, thought I would in...

Re: Yunnanilus cruciatus

Hi dwarfloach, welcome to Loaches Online. As you are based in the UK, have a look on the Tropical Fish Finder website. All you need to do is type in the name of the fish you are looking for, and it will bring up a list of stores that are selling the fish: http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/ Best wi...

Re: New Blue Loach and Community Tank

Hi justice,

As Andyroo has already mentioned, it would not be a good idea to try and house Y. modesta with Otocinclus species. The Y. modesta are simply too boisterous and will pick on these placid catfish.

Best wishes,
Emma

Re: Best substrate for Clown Loaches?

Sand. Every time. I have seen many clown loaches with barbel erosion during my years in the trade, all of which were kept on too coarse a gravel substrate. So sad, and so easily avoidable. I kept my clowns on a dark golden silica sand substrate for many years and their colours were vibrant (although...

Triplophysa siluroides

Thought I'd share some pics of our latest additions, some beautiful 8" (20cm) Triplophysa siluroides . We're in absolute awe! Re: quartine tank for new clowns

Hi Chris, Eeeek! I wouldn't touch that stuff with a barge pole! Some of those ingredients are definitely not a good idea for your fish. If you are sure you do need to worm your loaches, then see what your local store could order in for you first (the JBL product is very good). When using any treatme...

Re: quartine tank for new clowns

If any of your loaches appear skinny despite good appetites, then it would be worth worming the whole tank. Over here in the UK we are able to buy some wormers such as Kusuri Wormer Plus and JBL Nedol off the shelf, but others such as Levamisole hydrochloride has to be prescribed by a fish friendly ...

Re: What did the store sell me??? Yoyo or angelicus botia?

Apparently, it is a botia kubotai (which is a yo yo). Hi Bobandy87, Your loach looks to be a juvenile Botia kubotai (which some people still refer to as Botia 'angelicus'): http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-kubotai A 'Yoyo' is not the same fish, it's one of the common names used for Botia ...

Panda loach (Protomyzon pachychilus)

So excited! We have managed to get some Chinese Panda loaches ( Protomyzon pachychilus ) for our fish room. They are tiny at the moment, 1.7cm TL and are nosing about all over their new home, so it's a bit tricky to get good pics! In the bag acclimatising: http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad52/Can...

Re: Tanichthys thacbaensis-new white cloud species

The Tanichthys 'lemon' did not turn up. Most probably because I ordered too many loaches and there wasn't room in the box! Will try again next time.

Re: quartine tank for new clowns

Quarantining is definitely a good idea for loaches. I wouldn't recommend treating them with anything (except possibly a wormer) if they appear healthy. Just keep a very close eye out for whitespot as even the most healthy looking of loaches can suddenly break out in this when moved from an establish...

Re: Mixing Different Loaches

Hi awelton, welcome to Loaches Online :D The botiid species, such as the Zebra loaches ( Botia striata ) that you are considering, prefer much more current in the aquarium to that of the eel loaches (kuhlis) who tend to live in calmer waters. I'd advise choosing one or the other and cater to their p...
