ey: I believe that these are the species of Otocinclus which have been classified. Do you know if other Otos also eat black brush algae? Based upon my observation only if nothing else is available. This might be a silly question - but SAE are definitely different to Otos right? Yes. ey: also please ...

Re: most expensive tropical fish?
Related to this thread, in that I finally decided on a particular kind of bristlenose for clean-up duty in my tank and have been trolling aquabid keeping an eye out for the right one... gb: Occasionally a group of very nice brown, tan, or black BN's with very high dorsal fins and distinctive white ...

I'd love to see a picture of that! Please? Will try to figure out how to use the office camera. Tell me, do the zebra's do well in 6.4 - 6.6 pH and 81.5F temps (soft water) conditions? I do not know. They seem to enjoy very soft water with a Ph of 7 and a temperature of 78F. Am having some trouble ...

Re: Loach food
Are there any tips for getting them to tune in to this new food source? If the recipe does not include garlic you might consider adding it to your next batch. My home made recipes typically include a pound of meaties, two cans of veggies, yeast, multivitamins and a minimum of 5 cloves of garlic whi...

"soft water" from my house tap (we have a water softener now, but apparently it's not that soft according to the GH). Oh, I'm not sure how accurate the pH is because I only let it sit 10 minutes before testing. GH more than 30 I gave up at that point again. ns: If your shower soap is lathering up t...

Re: Changing water supply to soft water?
I'm wondering how I need to change my fish keeping habits to keep my loaches happy. Yes! Diana is correct but IMHO too moderate. The concentration of NaCl and KCl which typical brands of water softeners employ will continually increase. You can use outside faucet water, bypass the water softener in...

Folks: I have very much refined this protocol during the preceding two years. I have a community tank which includes cories, SAE's, Gold Nugget Plecos, Yoyo loaches and most importantly, for the purposes of this article, Queen Arabesque Plecos (as these are very, very sensitive fish). I have determi...

LO: At one point in time I did not understand the river tank concept and Martin posted the following link which describes a river tank but also how to construct the piping and implement the ancillary items for one (I believe that he invented this). http://www.loaches.com/articles/a-river-runs-throug...

Folks: I know that this is sorta off topic but I felt that some might be interested. Tanja: I have wanted some Oto's but I do not enjoy the appearance of the Oto's typically available. I searched PlanetCatfish for Oto's and found Otocinclus cocama, aka Zebra Oto, which appeared to be a very pretty f...

Andy: I have reviewed the product literature and the Mu size for the Micron Filter is not set forth. My comments are based upon 50Mu or less. You can aslo soak it overnight in a bleach and water solution. This step isn't necessary but I do it because I like it to be nice and white when I put it back...
