That's a really nice tank concept. I'm sure the clowns will love it for the time being. I like to see this sort of creativity. I have some ideas of my own for a "far in the future, no expense spared" rivertank. What I like most about that is simply thinking out all the details of such a project and ...

I wish I could share a video of their behavior, but these little Danios are so cool! They seem to love the flow of water as much as Loaches do. I've already put a piece of a plant clamp in front of my powerhead outlet because they were almost getting in there. They school really well now and are exp...

Picked up the first fish this morning, 15 Danio kyathit . http://www.danios.info/ImageUpload/kyathit1.jpg Source: Danios.info The lights are still off, but I can see they are starting to swim around the tank a bit already. Unless I stand in front of the tank, then they're quick to hide. I think they...

I agree withe the striata on the first page, looks weird, but it seems to work well. Nice way of thinking 'out of the box', I like that.
Great sense of humor too!

Are you sure it's a clown loach and not a shark? If it's low oxygen I would expect the alpha to defend the spot where the water comes into the tank from the filter. I've even seen zebrafish fight over such a spot in a badly maintained tank. Maybe you can post a picture of your tank? That mig...

It is truely amazing the way his work looks. I really need to get me one (or all) of his books and try my hand at that when I have a bit more experience with aquaria in general. His work really is 'Zen' and expresses calmness. It affects me just by looking at those. Thanks for mentioning him, I neve...

Thanks, I think I will greatly enjoy it when I have the first fish swimming. Just need to get some timers for the lights so I can give a stable light regime. What/who's 'Amano'? Do you mean Takashi Amano?... http://www.hemmy.net/2007/08/06/aquarium-art-by-takashi-amano/ (Those are just awesome, by t...

Always nice to see updates on this project!
What's the R.O. tank for? I'm not familiar with that term. Is it purely for changing water (with the right components mixed)?

Thanks!
I hope that the water is good now and that I can get my first fish this weekend. Those will be the dithers, something like Danio rerio or whatever the store has at the moment. (They usually have a good choice.)

How are you guys adding water directly from a hose? How do you monitor the water temp if it is straight from a garden hose... and how do you remove the chlorine from it? I'm in luck, we have a very good quality of drinking water here. The temperature is something that took me a bit of practice. I n...

Thanks Tinman. I don't understand it yet, though. Have a look in my "Loach project"-thread, you can see that there's plenty of flow through the tank. The sand is also just two inch high. I had a lot of wood debri on top of the sand, so maybe it had to do with that. I did change the tank yesterday, m...

Did some work in the tank yesterday. I wasn't yet happy with the way it looked and had a problem with algae on the sand, so I decided to work a little on it. (Actually I just wanted to try out one thing and ended up working for hours. :P ) I think it looks more natural this way. Under the java ferns...

Oh, about getting water back in. I use a garden hose and put it in my internal filter. Works really well, but if you have no internal filter like mine an option might be a spray bar/head normally used for the garden. Will make it seem like rain.

That's interesting, I was just thinking about the same thing. My new tank has been running for over three weeks now and I have a problem with some brown stuff on the sand. I guess it's algae, but I don't know for sure. Looks awful so I want to clean the sand before the first fish arrive. I was alrea...
